The Program:
The Environmental Horticulture option offers an AS degree in ornamental horticulture, three certificates of achievement, (Environmental Horticulture, Nursery/Florist Technician, and Landscape/Turfgrass Technician) and a certificate of completion in floral design. A certificate of achievement in general ornamental horticulture focuses on growing, maintaining, and designing with plants and flowers. It focuses on skills and knowledge pertinent to several fields of study within the ornamental horticulture industry. The outlook for jobs in ornamental horticulture is excellent. With over 2,000 potential employers in the north state and over 300 in our college district, opportunity is great. The major occupations include floriculture, nursery production, landscaping, sales, park maintenance, turfgrass management, research, education, and retail nursery and floristry. The Butte College programs are designed to give the students skills necessary for entry-level positions in the various horticulture industries. An Associates Degree enhances the individual's opportunity to advance into supervisory positions. A two- or four-year degree is a job requirement in some business and government agencies.

Proposed Changes to Master of Science in Agribusiness Degree Program The proposal changes the Master of Science in Agribusiness program to a Master of Science in Agribusiness with two sequence options. These options include a sequence in Agribusiness and a sequence in Agriscience. The proposed changes include identifying a new “ common core” for the two sequences. The core consists of nine hours (25% of the program requirements) comprised of three agribusiness courses. The Agriscience sequence is described below. The proposal also includes a reduction in required hours from 39 for the current Agribusiness major to 36 for the proposed Agribusiness sequence of the Agribusiness major. This reduction makes the Agribusiness and Agriscience sequences symmetric in terms of credit hour requirements. The 36-hour requirement still equals or exceeds the credit requirements of all masters programs in the College of Applied Science and Technology that require a thesis or a comprehensive examination. The agribusiness sequence retains the same course requirements from the College of Business that were present in the previous agribusiness program. However, the maximum limit of 12 hours of 400-level courses from the College of Business is explicitly included in the catalog copy.

Practical and hands-on: The LCC two-year diploma program in Agricultural Technology is designed for people who want to farm, ranch, or work in agri-business and agri-services. You can choose from two well-established majors:

New students are accepted into the Agricultural Technology program for both Fall (September) and Winter (January) terms. Qualified applicants may be admitted into programs outside of normal intakes. Interested applicants are considered on an individual basis by the Program Leader for acceptance into a program in an alternative or modified format. Academic Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed an Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent. Although not strictly required, Math 30A or Math 30P or Math 33, Biology 30 and Chemistry 30 are the recommended background for Agriculture Technology students. A minimum of 65% in English 30 or English 33 is recommended. A minimum of 65% in English 30 or English 33 is also recommended. Applicants with less than a High School Diploma but qualifying for Alternate Admission are evaluated based on academic background, experience and interest in the field. In addition, a personal interview is required. Academic advisement prescribes the upgrading necessary for the applicant to succeed in the program.

Introduction to Turfgrass Science
Turfgrass Science is an area of concentration offered under the Agronomy major in the Department of Plant Science. This baccalaureate program provides students an opportunity to study turfgrass science in conjunction with courses in soil science and fertility, pest control, business management, landscape design, and ornamental horticulture. Adequate opportunities are provided for students to gain practical experiences from classes held at the Plant Science Teaching and Research Facility in addition to independent study projects. Internships are available and allow students an opportunity to work closely with professionals in the industry. This program is designed to provide students basic and applied knowledge in turfgrass science. Students completing the program can apply their skills in the management of residential and commercial lawns, golf courses, athletic and recreational fields, parks and institutional grounds, roadsides, sod farms, inland and coastal erosion control sites, and other areas where grasses are utilized. Students completing a baccalaureate degree program of study will be eligible to pursue a graduate degree program in turfgrass science. Subsequently, graduates may enter into teaching, research, public service, or agribusiness enterprises.

The Master of Agriculture (M.Agr.) degree program at a distance is designed to prepare individuals for leadership roles in education, natural resource management, and other professional careers in agriculture and the life sciences. The program is ideally suited for teachers, employees of state and federal agencies, extension agents, and employees of private businesses who need to expand their knowledge and skills to the master's degree level. A degree course in Forestry [B.Agr.Sc.(Forestry)] has been on offer within the Faculty of Agriculture, University College Dublin, since 1927. The Objectives of the course are:
