GRANATO NEW ICECATS COACH
Successful, Young Coach to Step Up from Blues ECHL Affiliate
WORCESTER, MA – St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President and General Manager Larry Pleau today announced the hiring of Don Granato (gruh-NAH-toe) as head coach of the Worcester IceCats, the Blues American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. Granato was most recently the head coach and general manager of hockey operations for the Blues East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate in Peoria, Illinois. In his first season with the Rivermen, he guided the team to the 1999-2000 Kelly Cup crown. He will be joined by Steve Pleau who is set to enter his third season as the IceCats assistant coach.
Despite becoming one of the youngest coaches in the AHL, the 33 year-old Granato has had a great deal of seasoning and success behind the bench. In three of his six seasons as a head coach, he has directed his team to a championship.
Granato's coaching career began with Green Bay in the United States Hockey League (USHL). After a start-up season with the Gamblers, he led the team to back-to-back National Championships in 1996 and 1997. He is the only coach ever to accomplish that task. The following two seasons were spent as Head Coach and General Manager of the Columbus Chill. He guided the team to a 98-99 division championship and an overall 72-54-14 record. His success continued as the bench boss for the Rivermen. With his team noted for its work ethic and consistent play, Peoria captured a division, conference and ECHL title.

BOB CLARKE
Philadelphia Flyers
General Manager
Bob Clarke, the ultimate Flyer, is one of the greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League. Hockey never seemed like labor to him, and for fifteen seasons Clarke forged that passion upon the team.
The Philadelphia Flyers rose to the top of the NHL in 1973-74 and 1974-75 and remained a winner through Clarke’s career because nothing was more important to Clarke than his next shift. He relentlessly blocked everything else out. Big leads, hopeless deficits, January road games in half-empty arenas, illness, injuries, fatigue and personal problems were mere excuses to Clarke once the puck was dropped. He was an excellent player, but human. It was his will that bordered on the supernatural. Upon his retirement following the 1983-84 season, Clarke was fourth on the NHL’s all-time assist list with 852, and its eleventh all-time leading scorer with 1,210 points. On Bobby Clarke Night, November 15, 1984, the fans at the Spectrum stood for more than four minutes cheering the greatest Flyer of them all. Bobby Clarke gave of himself to a degree as great as any athlete in the history of sport. He was named as The Sporting News’ and The Hockey News’ Executive of the Year for the 1994-95 season after the Flyers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals and captured the Atlantic Division Championship. He became the first executive to win

Anchor, Rocky Mountain Sports Report

Tim Ring has anchored the Rocky Mountain Sports Report since August 2001. After just one year in the Denver market, Ring was recognized in the annual "Best Of" edition of the Westword as Sportscaster of the Year.
Ring comes to Denver from a similar position in Miami (Fla.) where he was sports anchor for WAMI's nightly half-hour sports show. During Ring's three-year tenure at WAMI, the station was the local rights holder for the Miami Heat and Florida Marlins. His involvement with the local pro sports scene was extensive, hosting pre- and post-game shows for the Heat and Marlins and sideline reporting for Heat telecasts. In 2000, WAMI's pre-game coverage of the Miami Heat earned an Emmy Award. Ring added another NBA team to his schedule, hosting Dallas Maverick pregame shows for KSTR-TV in Dallas from WAMI's studios in Miami for two seasons.
Prior to joining WAMI in 1998, Ring was sports director at WLUK-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he hosted the Green Bay Packer pre- and post-game shows, On Guard with Aaron Taylor, Inside with Antonio Freeman and Edgar Bennett, and Talking Football with Brett Favre and LeRoy Butler.

January 28, 1984
Sworn In: May 14, 1984, Ottawa
Born: April 26, 1922, Prud'homme, Saskatchewan
Died: January 26, 1993
Throughout her distinguished career, the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé achieved a number of notable 'firsts'. In the House of Commons, she was the first female Cabinet member from Quebec, she was the first woman elected as Speaker of the House of Commons, she opened the first daycare on Parliament Hill, and she was the first woman to serve as Governor General. Mme Sauvé was a staunch advocate of issues surrounding youth and world peace, and the dove of peace is one of the elements incorporated into Madame Sauvé's coat-of-arms. Long before her vice-regal mandate, she worked as assistant to the Director of the Youth Secretariat of UNESCO, served as Secretary of the Canadian Committee for the World Assembly of Youth, and initiated and hosted a discussion show for youth. At Rideau Hall, she established two awards for students wishing to enter the field of special education for exceptional children. And at the end of her mandate, she established the Jeanne Sauvé Youth Foundation, dedicated to the cause of youth excellence in Canada. Mme. Sauvé's concern for youth and peace were two of the three central themes of her mandate – the third was national unity. She travelled extensively, making her role as Governor General – a symbol of our common identity – accessible to all Canadians. In her installation speech, she spoke about the need for Canadians to forego a narrow sense of their nation and become more tolerant. "This is the price of our happiness," she said, "but happiness will never be found in the spirit of 'every man for himself'."

Grant Leslie - bass player
Grant Leslie -One day while enjoying a refreshing beverage at the Anvil Tavern in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, I received a message that Matt Minglewood was looking for me. At the time, Minglewood had three gold records and a huge national following. I had always enjoyed Minglewood's music and the band would offer me a much larger profile than the ones I had played with around the Maritimes to that point. I raced home on my motorcycle and made the call; that was in April of 1984
I live in New Minas, N.S., but was born in Cheticamp, Cape Breton where my father owned the fish processing plant and the General store. My family moved to the Annapolis valley when I was kid. Growing up, my Dad played the harmonica to Scottish fiddle tunes and my mother the piano. But it was my grandmother,Stella Vail[Namie], who was the most accomplished, playing piano twice a week at her lodge, funerals and other functions until she was 88. She Rocked the Old folks home till she passed at age 97 in Jan 2002
