Reviews Tips and Patches Software Programming Eiffel libraries  EiffelBDB EiffelBDB is an Eiffel interface to the Berkeley DB
Berkeley DB is an embedded database system that supports key access to data.
Berkeley DB also provides core database services like page cache management, transactions, locking and logging.
This wrapper was created with the help of SWIGEIFFEL an extension of SWIG to produce Eiffel interfaces to C libraries.  Eiffel-mmap Eiffel-mmap is an Eiffel interface to the mmap system call to map files into memory. The file is accessed via string operations rather than through I/O library function calls and input buffers.
This is normally much faster because it uses the same virtual memory management mechanism as the operating system itself.  gtkxmhtml gtkxmhtml 0.1 , an Eiffel interface to the GNOME gtk-xmhtml widget.
The gtk-xmhtml widget displays HTML pages.

Euphoria Libraries and Toolkits
This is my main page for various Euphoria projects that I've done. They include:
  • Py Programming Language , a structured programming language. Runs in DOS, Windows and Linux.
  • EE , my Euphoria Editor. Runs in DOS and Linux.
  • , a library for coding Windows applications.
  • Euphoria/Java , a program that converts Euphoria programs into Java code. Early pre-alpha, runs some simple programs.
  • , a DOS port of Win32Lib. Obsolete, but perhaps useful.
  • Llama , a library similar in concept to Win32Lib, but designed to be cross-platform and extensible. Also obsolete, but has useful tools for working with GTK+.
  • mwLib , the beginning of a cross-platform minimal windowing library. Also seems to have stalled, but fun stuff if you want to see how to build a windowing system from scratch.
  • Underscore , a stalled music scoring project. I almost got to the point of printing sheet music.

A Brief History of Library Instruction in the United States of America Michael Lorenzen (This paper originally appeared in Illinois Libraries in 2001.) It is likely that librarians have always to a limited degree been involved in classroom teaching. For example, it is hard to imagine that the librarians at the Great Library of Alexandria did not assemble from time to time small groups of students and visiting scholars and instruct them on the proper handling and use of the valuable scrolls that resided there. Throughout most of history librarians have been members of other professions (the clergy and scholars of various disciplines) who took on the additional duty of maintaining the library collection of their institutions. It is highly likely that these individuals introduced library concepts into their regular lectures pertaining to their area of expertise. Unfortunately, no written record appears to exist detailing how library instruction in the classroom was carried out or how often it was conducted. German library literature records various examples of library instruction from the 17th to 19th Centuries. Ewert (1986) gave a summary of this literature and detailed where the library instruction occurred, who generally was conducting it, and what was covered. Unfortunately, the article was written in communist East Germany and most of the examples are tied into how these instruction sessions ultimately aided the climate of revolution against capitalism. This makes it difficult to determine what the curriculum of the classes was or how many non-revolutionary library instruction examples may have occurred. Regardless, it shows that a tradition of library instruction in academic institutions had developed in Germany prior to the its origins in the United States in the late 19th Century. As the United State's higher education system is based on the German model, this may have influenced the earliest academic library instruction practitioners in the US.

For him that stealeth a Book from this Library, let it change into a serpent in his hand and rend him. Let him be struck with Palsy, and all his Members blasted. Let him languish in Pain crying aloud for Mercy and let there be no sur-cease to his Agony till he sink in Dissolution. Let Bookworms gnaw his Entrails in token of the Worm that dieth not, and when at last he goeth to his final Punishment, let the flames of Hell consume him for ever and aye.
