  • "All numbers are not created equal; that certain constants appear at all and then echo throughout mathematics, in seemingly independent ways, is a source of fascination." Indulge your fascination, or discover a new one. This site provides well over a hundred constants, each with descriptions, proofs, interesting sidelines, and illustrations. Some are illustrated with Mathcad files (viewable with a free read-only version, linked from the site). Many entries rely on a knowledge of advanced mathematics. Welcome
The Library and Information History Group (LIHG) was formed in 1962. It is one of the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professional 's oldest special interest groups and is the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of libraries and librarianship. The LIHG publishes a regular newsletter , and a scholarly journal, Library History , appears under its aegis. It promotes other publications like the long-established British Library History: Bibliography , and is closely involved in projects such as A History of Libraries in Britain and Ireland The LIHG also organises seminars, conferences and visits, and seeks to support action for the preservation of library records, artefacts and buildings. Indeed, it is often said that the LIHG represents the historical conscience of librarianship. Apart from those with a general interest in library history, members of the LIHG include practising librarians, retired librarians and students. Introduction to History
Many programs read input from the user a line at a time. The GNU History library is able to keep track of those lines, associate arbitrary data with each line, and utilize information from previous lines in composing new ones. The programmer using the History library has available functions for remembering lines on a history list, associating arbitrary data with a line, removing lines from the list, searching through the list for a line containing an arbitrary text string, and referencing any line in the list directly. In addition, a history expansion function is available which provides for a consistent user interface across different programs.

    History Expansion
The History library provides a history expansion feature that is similar to the history expansion provided by csh . This section describes the syntax used to manipulate the history information. History expansions introduce words from the history list into the input stream, making it easy to repeat commands, insert the arguments to a previous command into the current input line, or fix errors in previous commands quickly. History expansion takes place in two parts. The first is to determine which line from the history list should be used during substitution. The second is to select portions of that line for inclusion into the current one. The line selected from the history is called the event , and the portions of that line that are acted upon are called words . Various modifiers are available to manipulate the selected words. The line is broken into words in the same fashion that Bash does, so that several words surrounded by quotes are considered one word. History expansions are introduced by the appearance of the history expansion character, which is

    Libraries with Significant Holdings
    Arizona State University
    Tempe, AZ 8S287-1006
This young collection holds a remarkable number of the items mentioned in the bibliography, including some of the scarcest books. Sharlane Grant, head of preservation, thinks that strong art and anthropology programs at the university support the holdings. To date there has not been an active weeding program. The Library has a brittle book policy but no money for active microfilming. Access: In person, phone and mail. Electronically, type TELNET ACCS.INRE.EDU; at the destination prompt, enter library; then enter 5 for VT100. To exit, hit the TELNET escape key. Lending Policy: ILL participant. OCLC designation AZS. Rare Books do not circulate. Preservation: The Preservation Department is involved in identifying the priorities of the university for future, long-term planning. Grant believes it is the role of the preservationist to be the conscience of today and the advocate of tomorrow.
