v Concert Preview The Weis Center for the Performing Arts will host a unique concert event that blends modern musicianship and American musical history tonight. The Penn Central Wind Band, under the direction of Music Department Chair and Associate Professor of Music William Kenny, will perform a concert reenactment of the American Rolling Mill Company Band. Kenny has researched the Rolling Mill Band extensively and even uncovered some unpublished music manuscripts from the era during which the band performed. The group consists of about 45 musicians, some from Lewisburg and the surrounding area, and others from as far away as State College. The members include local teachers, professors at the University and other universities, professional musicians and University Symphonic Band members. Between the highly talented musicians that compose the group and the unique historical background of the staging and program of the performance, the concert promises to be of remarkable artistic and intellectual merit. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and admission is free.

The Grants Program

The Humanities Defined

Defining Humanities Scholars
... State Humanities Month The Council The New York Council for the Humanities is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the presence of the humanities in the state’s cultural and intellectual life. Established in 1975, the Council is an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, from which it receives major support. The Council also receives funding from the New York State Education Department, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, corporations, foundations, and individuals. The Grants Program Our grants program is divided into Major Grants and Mini Grants (see also “Award Categories” and “Application Deadlines” in Part II), and is designed to provide financial support for humanities programming, conceived and implemented by not-for-profit organizations across New York State, that brings humanities scholars and scholarship to a general public audience. Given our obligation to the entire state and our awareness that some communities may possess fewer humanities resources than others, we give special consideration to projects that reach underserved populations; to projects that, without our funding, might not happen; and to organizations that need financial seed money so that they may secure long-term support from other sources.
