When Thomas Jefferson dispatched Lewis and Clark to find a water route across North America and explore the uncharted West, he expected they'd encounter woolly mammoths, erupting volcanoes, and a mountain of pure salt. What they found was no less surprising. See it all on our journey: journal entries, historical photos, drawings, and more.

Map of Spain and Italy with insets of Rome, Barcelona, and Granada 20"x 24"
Maps are beautiful representations of a person's journeys, discoveries and dreams. Each map is hand-painted on canvas. I work with each client to come up with the ideal map to showcase their trip. I include any details that make the location special for the client, such as hiking routes, dates, names, illustrations from souvenirs, etc. They are accurate depictions of the location, with added historical details. All correspondence is usually done over the phone or via e-mail, but a studio visit can be arranged for anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. After initial discussions, I make a sketch of the final layout for approval by the client. It then takes two to three weeks for completion of the painted map.

137. National Library Of Wales Map Collection
Collection overview with sample images of historical Welsh maps.
http://www.llgc.org.uk/dm/dm0067.htm
The Map Collection
The collection of maps, atlases, charts and early geographies in the Library, is the largest such collection in Wales. The collection deals with all kinds of mapping including town plans, estate and farm plans and sea charts. It continues to grow through legal deposit, purchase and gift.
Ordnance Survey Maps
By legal deposit the Library receives a copy of all maps commercially produced in the British Isles. This includes Ordnance Survey (OS) at all scales. OS SIMS (Survey Information on Microfilm) is also available for the whole of the British Isles at 1:2,500 and 1:1,250 scales.
The Library has a comprehensive collection of 'historic' OS maps relating to Wales (e.g. an OS map of the centre of Cardiff, 1920 ) from the first 'One Inch to One Miles; survey of the early nineteenth century. There are photocopies for the counties of Wales of the original two-inch to the mile scale drawings of the OS made between 1809 and 1836 which formed the basis of the first edition One-Inch maps. Maps of medium scale (6":1 mile) and large scale (25":1 mile) appeared in the last quarter of the nineteenth century - the first edition published c.1870-90; second edition appeared c.1895-1905 and a third or provisional edition c.1919-1922 with a further update for some rapidly changing urban areas c.1937. (Large scale OS mapping of England and Scotland prior to 1987 is not available).
Historical and Antiquarian Maps
The Library's primary interest in Welsh mapping is also reflected in the historical map collection. The Library has twenty-two different editions of the five variant version of Humphrey Lhuyd's

Subject Index Creator Index Geographic Location Index ... Title Index This category documents the discovery and exploration with both manuscripts and published maps. Many of these maps reflect the European Age of Discoveries, dating from the late 15th century to the 17th century when Europeans were concerned primarily with determining the outline of the continents as they explored and mapped the coastal areas and the major waterways. Also included are 18th and 19th century maps documenting the exploration and mapping of the interior parts of the continents, reflecting the work of Lewis and Clark and subsequent government explorers and surveyors. The mission of the Library of Congress is to make its resources available and useful to Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. The goal of the Library's National Digital Library Program is to offer broad public access to a wide range of historical and cultural documents as a contribution to education and lifelong learning. The Library of Congress presents these documents as part of the record of the past. These primary historical documents reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times. The Library of Congress does not endorse the views expressed in these collections, which may contain materials offensive to some readers.
