religion that originated in India and is still practiced by most of its inhabitants, as well as by those whose families have migrated from India to other parts of the world (chiefly East Africa, South Africa, Southeast Asia, the East Indies, and England). The word Hindu is derived from the Sanskrit word sindhu (“river”—more specifically, the Indus); the Persians in the 5th century BC called the Hindus by that name, identifying them as the people of the land of the Indus. The Hindus define their community as “those who believe in the Vedas” ( see Veda) or “those who follow the way (dharma) of the four classes ( varnas) and stages of life ( ashramas Hinduism is a major world religion, not merely by virtue of its many followers (estimated at more than 700 million) but also because of its profound influence on many other religions during its long, unbroken history, which dates from about 1500 BC. The corresponding influence of these various religions on Hinduism (it has an extraordinary tendency to absorb foreign elements) has greatly contributed to the religion's syncretism—the wide variety of beliefs and practices that it encompasses. Moreover, the geographic, rather than ideological, basis of the religion (the fact that it comprises whatever all the people of India have believed and done) has given Hinduism the character of a social and doctrinal system that extends to every aspect of human life. Hinduism in its narrower sense, is the conglomeration of religious beliefs and practices existing in India that have grown out of ancient Brahminism Christian civilization. According to the census of 1901, the total population of India is a little more than 294,000,000 souls, of which 207,000,000 are adherents of Hinduism. The provinces in which they are most numerous are Assam, Bengal, Bombay, Berrar, Madras, Agra, and Oudh, and the Central Provinces. Of foreign religions, Mohammedanism has, by dint of long domination, made the deepest impression on the natives, numbering in India today nearly 62,500,000 adherents. Christianity , considering the length of time it has been operative in India, has converted but an insignificant fraction of the people from Hinduism. The Christians of all sects, foreign officials included, number but 2,664,000, nearly one-half being Catholics. • Name: Hinduism
  • Founders: The roots of Hinduism have been traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization and the Indo-Aryan culture. Indo-Europeans extended the name of the province of Sindh to the whole country lying across the Indus river. The inhabitants were simplycalled Hindus, Persian for "sindh" and their religion was thus called Hinduism.
  • Year Founded: Hinduism does not owe its existence to any single historic event. Rather, it is a complex religionthat has continually evolved and transformed over the course of milleniums. Because the Indus Valley practiced a religion possessingseveral features common with modern Hinduism, the beginnings of Hinduism has been dated back to the time in which the civilization flourished, approximately 2500 B.C.
  • Sacred or Revered Texts: The sacred literature of Hinduism can be divided up into two distinct categories: sruti and smriti Shruti , that which is heard or divinely revealed, consist of the Vedas , the most ancient of the scriptures, the Upanishads , the Brahmanas , and the Aranyakas Shrutis refer to the manifestation of the divine in the world, and more specifically, the truths revealed by the dieties to the early sages or

    A Comparative Analysis
"Do not hate your enemy for he may one day become your friend" ~ Ali (ra) "Somebody ought to tell the truth about the Bible. The preachers dare not, because they would be driven from their pulpits. Professors in colleges dare not, because they would lose their salaries. Politicians dare not. They would be defeated. Editors dare not. They would lose subscribers. Merchants dare not, because they might lose customers. Men of fashion dare not, fearing that they would lose caste. Even clerks dare not, because they might be discharged. And so I thought I would do it myself . . . " Robert G. Ingersoll "God sacrificed his own son in place of humans who needed to be punished for their own sins might make some Christians love Jesus, but is an obcene picture of God. It is almost heavenly child abuse, and may infect out imagination at more earthly levels as well. I do not want to express my faith through a theology that pictures God demanding blood sacrifices in order to be reconciled to us." (page 145-146) and "Actually, the fact that we have four gospels lies at the very heart of our problem. Because we read particular parables or sayings or stories in several different versions, we can't miss the disagreements between them"

More information on this lecture The Religion Department offers instruction, from the introductory to the advanced level, in most of the world's major religious traditions: Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, the religions of the ancient Near East, the religions of Africa, and religious life in Native North America. Almost all of the faculty specialize in a specific religious area and have expertise in the associated languages and history, since a philological and historical grounding is considered essential to a thorough understanding of a religion. Everyone teaching in the department is also a comparativist. Indeed, it is the department's insistence on an undergraduate major which is comparative in focus that distinguishes the study of religion at Dartmouth. This emphasis insures that students who enroll in even a single course will analyze how and why religious traditions have acquired their unique shapes. Each fall the department sponsors a Foreign Study Program at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. This permits students to consider alternate approaches to the study of religion and to use the very different environment of the United Kingdom as a test case for understanding the interaction of religion and culture.

It seems that a group of polytheists with a sick fetish for cattle have the audacity to launch an attack against Al-Islam. Yes, the irony is truly there, but these people have brought their own destruction from shirk (polytheism), so it is our duty to bring to light major points about this religion, which currently is oppression 98% of the country of India (as well as other Hindu-majority countries). From the articles that will follow, the reader will be able to easily see how sick of an atrocity Hinduism is upon humanity. If these people would only submit their hearts to Al-Islam and live their lives by the way of Syedna Rasul-e-Akram (Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam), they wouldn't be in half of the predicament they exist in today, with all of their sorrows pointing towards one thing: Hinduism!

Hinduism , roughly Perennial Faith) is generally considered to be the oldest major world religion still practiced today and first among Dharma faiths. Hinduism is characterized by a diverse array of belief systems, practices and scriptures. It has its origin in ancient Vedic culture at least as far back as 2000 BCE. It is the third largest religion with approximately 1.05 billion followers worldwide, 96% of whom live in the Indian subcontinent Perhaps the Hindu spirit, inspired by no single man or woman in particular, is best captured in a line from the ancient Rig Veda , the "oldest religious scripture in the world." Essentially, any kind of spiritual practice followed with faith, love and persistence will lead to the same ultimate state of self-realization. Thus, Hindu thought distinguishes itself by strongly encouraging tolerance for different beliefs since temporal systems cannot claim sole understanding of the one transcendental Truth. To the Hindu, this idea has been an active force in defining the 'Eternal Dharma.' It has been for Hinduism what the infinite Divine Self of

    Hinduism
Hinduism embodies a large number of different expressive paths. It has no single founder or single text, and no single administrative authority. Hinduism is one of the oldest and longest lasting religious traditions, with a Hindu written text dating from 1200 B.C.E. The name "Hinduism" comes from sindhu, the Indo-Aryan word for "the sea," and came to apply to the region east of the Indus River. A set of texts called the Vedas (knowledge) which contain much of the religious beliefs and practices. Composed over many centuries, Hindus believe that the Vedas are "revelations" that were heard, not text composed by people. Amongst the major concepts is dharma, one's duty in this lifetime, and karma, the actions one has performed in previous lifetimes and the actions one performs in this lifetime. Other concepts related to dharma and karma are transmigration of the soul after death, and rebirth of the soul depending upon one's karma in this life. This endless succession of births can be ended by moksa, or salvation, attainable only by a strict practice of liberation from desire and education in the higher forms of knowledge. In Hinduism exists the trinity of Brahma, the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer and regenerator. Vishnu and Shiva incarnate themselves into other forms, as humans, animals or other living beings on earth to help the beings on earth in times of crisis. Rama, the hero of the Ramayana, is one of the nine major incarnations of Vishnu on this earth. Rama, the son of King Dasaratha, is thought to have been put on earth to conquer Ravana, ruler of Lanka and king of the demons.
