Parks are operated by each of the four levels of government in Canada: national, provincial, regional and municipal. Canada's national parks are intended to preserve areas of unique eco-systems. The other types of parks are primarily for recreational purposes and to maintain wilderness reserves. Provincial parks are the most numerous, with British Columbia and Ontario each counting more than 200. For more information on recreational activities in provincial parks, visit the parks pages for each region.

ISMRM Regional Organizing Committee Suggested Recreational Activities
The postponement of the ISMRM meeting to July opens a number of opportunities for things to do outside the City of Toronto. The quintessential Ontario recreation is canoeing. The canoe was developed by the Indians of Eastern Canada and was a means of transport on the many lakes and rivers of the province. These lakes are often disconnected by short segments of land necessitating portaging. The canoe is an ideal craft for this kind of travel and has become a holiday activity for many people around Southern Ontario. Several Provincial Parks are located within two to four hours of Toronto and provide ideal canoeing opportunities ( www.ontarioparks.com ). The best known Ontario park is Algonquin Provincial Park, which attracts canoeists from around the world to its pristine lakes and forests. It tends to be rather busy in the summer and requires advanced booking. The most picturesque park is Killarney Provincial Park about four hours north of Toronto in the direction of Sudbury. This park allows for a combination of canoeing and hiking. One of the newest parks only two hours from Toronto is Massauga Provincial Park which consists of lakes and some segments of the

considered them to hold up the sky. Waterfalls, remote backpacking, hiking and camping are some of the recreational opportunities here.
http://www.blueridgemountains.com/outdoor_adventure.html
Outdoor Adventure
in Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains Two of the greatest outdoor adventures in the world begin at the southern border of Fannin County. Both the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye Trail start at the top of Springer Mountain. The Appalachian Trail, better known and longer of the trails, begins a 2,000+ mile journey to Maine through many of the states on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. The Benton MacKaye, more remote than the Appalachian, begins a 250 mile trek along the western slopes of the Appalachian Mountains, rejoining the AT in Virginia. Hike the Benton MacKaye north and in 13 miles it crosses the pristine Toccoa River on a structure known simply as the " Swinging Bridge ." It is the longest suspension bridge east of the Mississippi and was built by the Forest Service and the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club in the mid-1970's. The Benton MacKaye continues through some very remote areas of Georgia, entirely in Fannin County for this portion of the journey. On any given weekend the Toccoa River is a popular destination for tubing, canoeing, kayaking and trout fishing. Beginning at Deep Hole, a
