Social and Recreational Activities The TRUE teachers went on a hike after labs on Tuesday, June 26th to the yellow blazed trail at San Felasco State park up in the northwest corner of Gainesville. A beautiful park with some excellent hiking pathways and trails were available. We debated on the short walking path and finally being the adventurous group that we were decided to tackle the much more difficult and longer hiking trail. Now the road was long and treacherous but we decided we could accept the challenge. We hiked along the trail and spotted deer running along with us and also saw some gopher turtles, and armadillos. The trail was long but we we trudged on and even though it lasted for several hours and did get dark before we returned. It was a lot of fun. Soon Young was surprised by an armadillo in the dark, which was very exciting. We had a lot of fun and it was a great outing. For the Fourth of July some of the participants went to Mary Bahr's home located in Fort McCoy. We participated in water sports with swimming, canoeing, and kayaking being the number one choices. We even attempted sailing, but soon the wind died down. There were lots of kids there with Supersoakers and little dogs. We had a much welcomed shower in the afternoon and we took advantage of the good weather to cook our hamburgers and hot dogs. Later we found some guitar players and discovered we had some talented musicians in the group. Several sang songs and later we played music and danced until almost midnight.
