Hepatitis is a disease of the liver that is often caused by a virus. Hepatitis simply means inflammation of the liver. There are several different kinds of hepatitis caused by different hepatitis viruses. In each case, the virus, once inside the body, begins to live in the liver cells, interferes with the cells' normal activities, and then uses the cells to make more of the virus. Hepatitis Transmission
Different hepatitis viruses are spread in different ways, as explained in How Hepatitis Is Spread . If you suspect that you may have hepatitis or think you have been in contact with an infected person or a contaminated object, consult your health care professional as soon as possible. Types of Hepatitis
The most common types of hepatitis are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.

Signs and Symptoms:
Hepatitis
is an inflammatory process involving the liver. Hepatitis, in its early stages, may cause flu-like symptoms. These symptoms may include malaise (a general ill feeling), fever, muscle aches, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice . Some people may have no symptoms at all and may not even know they're infected. If hepatitis progresses, its symptoms begin to point to the liver as the source of illness. Chemicals normally secreted by the liver begin to build up in the blood. This causes jaundice (a yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), foul breath, and a bitter taste in the mouth. Urine turns dark or "tea-colored," and stools become white, light, or "clay-colored." There also can be abdominal pain, which may be centered below the right ribs (over a tender, swollen liver) or below the left ribs (over a tender spleen). Description:
The word hepatitis simply means an inflammation of the liver, without pinpointing a specific cause. Someone with hepatitis may be suffering from one of several disorders, including a viral infection of the liver; liver injury caused by a toxin (poison); liver damage caused by interruption of the organ's normal blood supply; or trauma. Most commonly, hepatitis is caused by one of three viruses: the

Wirusowe zapalenie w±troby typu B WZW B?

It's sneaky, it's silent, and it can permanently harm your liver. It's called hepatitis (say: hep-uh- tight -iss), and people can get it if they're not careful. Some people have hepatitis for many years without knowing it and then discover they have liver damage because of it. So be aware, take care, and don't let hepatitis sneak up on you. Life of a Liver
Twenty-four hours a day, nonstop, your liver (which is located on the right side of your body near your abdomen) performs many tasks to keep your body running smoothly.
  • It's like a vacuum! It cleans out poisons from your blood.
  • It's like a warehouse! It stores vitamins and minerals and makes sure your body gets the right amounts.
  • It's like a bodybuilder! It produces just the right amount of amino acids to build strong, healthy muscles
  • It's like a gas station! It keeps your body fueled up with just the right amount of glucose (sugar).
  • It's like a meter! It regulates any medicines you are taking. (Before some medicines can work, the liver has to start them up.) It also regulates hormones in your body.

VIRAL HEPATITIS
The term VIRAL HEPATITIS is usually used to describe infections caused by agents whose primary tissue tropism is the liver.
To date, at least five hepatitis viruses have been recognised, and these have been named:-
Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E.
Acute hepatitis may also occur as part of the clinical course of a number of viral infections, including
human cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, herpes simplex virus, yellow fever virus and rubella.
Clinical Features Hepatitis
due to all these viruses presents clinically in a very similar fashion, especially during the acute phase of the illness. Thus a specific diagnosis can only be made in the laboratory.
The majority of infections are totally asymptomatic , but common clinical features include: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, right upper quadrant pain and raised liver enzymes AST and ALT.
Jaundice
is the hall mark of infection, but tends to develop late.
Anicteric cases are also very common. ENTERICALLY TRANSMITTED HEPATITIS: A and E PARENTERALLY TRANSMITTED HEPATITIS B C ,

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) The nation's biggest known outbreak of hepatitis A is causing such a panic that people are lining up by the thousands for antibody shots and no longer eating out. A third person died Friday and nearly 500 others who ate at a Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurant have fallen ill in the outbreak that has prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to send assistance. Health investigators are focusing on whether contaminated produce perhaps scallions caused the outbreak at the restaurant in the Beaver Valley Mall, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. "We're very concerned. It's very serious and we've sent a team of people out there to assist," said CDC spokesman David Daigle.

Facts About Hepatitis A For Adults
What is hepatitis A?
Hepatitis A is a highly contagious viral infection of the liver. The virus is found in the stool of infected people. The illness is usually spread by a fecal-oral route, or by putting something in the mouth that was contaminated by the stool of a person with the disease. Symptoms
The effects of hepatitis A infection differ from person to person. Generally, the older the person, the more severe the symptoms. Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal pain, dark urine and appetite loss. Respiratory symptoms, rashes and joint pain may also develop. The average time between exposure to the hepatitis A virus (HAV) and the development of symptoms is about 28 days. Symptoms commonly last for about 4 weeks, but in 20% of people who get the disease, the symptoms may return and continue on and off for up to 15 months. There is no specific treatment for hepatitis A once it is contracted. Prevention
There is a vaccine to protect against HAV infection. Two doses are needed 6 to 12 months apart to ensure long-term protection. International travelers should get the first dose at least 4 weeks prior to their departure.
