Heart Disease Risk Factors
(En español) Cardiovascular disease can take many forms: high blood pressure coronary artery disease valvular heart disease stroke , or rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease . According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease causes 12 million deaths in the world each year. Cardiovascular disease is responsible for half of all deaths in the United States and other developed countries, and it is a main cause of death in many developing countries as well. Overall, it is the leading cause of death in adults. In the United States, more than 60 million Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease. About 2600 people die every day of cardiovascular disease. Cancer, the second largest killer, accounts for only half as many deaths. Coronary artery disease, the most common form of cardiovascular disease, is the leading cause of death in America today. But thanks to many studies involving thousands of patients, researchers have found certain factors that play an important role in a person's chances of developing heart disease. These are called risk factors.

ICQ me

T hanks for calling at my web site, my name is Bob. In 1997 at the age of 43 I had a heart attack. I didn't have much warning, just an angina pain in my arm. The problem was I didn’t know what angina felt like before then, so I wasn’t sure why I felt so ill.
I’m one of many people in England to suffer heart disease and like them I need to make life changes to try and slow down its effects. After my heart attack I had an angiogram, which led to angioplasty and stenting in an artery of my heart.
In September 2000, I had a quadruple heart by-pass operation which is healing well and I am now back at work as a Human Resource Adviser with a major Aerospace company. Normality to me, means doing what I did before my illness and being able to adequately provide for Angela and Ian, my wife and son. Through Community based cardiac rehabilitation, I believe I will be able to. If you have heart disease, or care for someone who has, or you have an interest in cardiac matters, then please read on. I went back to work on Monday 15th January 2001 - full time. Now I do overtime and have had a travel restriction lifted. I can drive , use public transport and fly. The Cardiologist says that I can now lead a normal life, just like everyone else. That is what CABG is all about - returning to a normal life. Many people though, find normality not very easy to accept after such trauma, this is where support groups come in - please follow the link.

Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome
She had 8 open heart surgeries.
I know that without surgery my little Hope
would die. But with surgery she had a chance
to live. I might get the chance to see her
smile, hear her laugh and cry, and share her
love. The number of days we had together are
not important. What is important is that
I cherished each and every day.
There are no guarentees in life for any child whether they have a heart defect or not. Many children die suddenly everyday. I had the advantage of knowing that everyday was special and I was blessed with whatever time I could share with her. Hope was a special little girl with her own personality. Even after all she went through she always had a twinkle in her eye. No matter how tired she was she always gave my finger a squeeze. She put up a good fight, but now she can rest. Ilove her so much and she will live in my heart forever. Most people only dream
