Health and Physical Education
Teaching Majors
Students desiring to teach in the public, parochial, or private schools in health education and physical education should choose the physical education major (teacher certification tracks) and the health education option. In addition to requirements for the teacher education program, these programs may lead to certification to teach in elementary and secondary schools. Recreation/ Fitness Majors
Students interested in the general field of physical education as professional training for careers in fitness and recreation in non-school settings such as corporate fitness and recreation agencies should pursue the physical education major (recreation/fitness track). These students might also elect to pursue the health education minor, business administration minor, accounting minor, or marketing minor. Health Education Option, K-12
Health Education is an excellent choice for teacher certification, P-12 and/or as a minor. Health education is offered to students with any major in secondary school teacher education. It is particularly appropriate for a biology major or a student majoring in social studies as well as the traditional major of physical education. For a non education student majoring in biology, psychology, nursing, allied health and human services, or social work a minor in health education would complement her/his academic studies and may help in providing a practical framework for the major.

This work is part of an ongoing monologue on my progress towards measurable learning outcome implementation for my courses, for the division, and the institution. This presumes a prior knowledge of the material at slorevolution.html and slorevolution_ii.html In slorevolution.html I described the grade book impact of moving to measurable student learning outcomes. One of the two strongest impacts were increases in the skill specific record keeping. The second was tendency towards a competent - not competent overall grading scheme. The Truths Taught in the True Esoteric Schools In the schools now forming, the emphasis is upon soul awareness, [276] spiritual knowledge, and understanding of the higher forces, direct and first-hand knowledge of the spiritual Hierarchy which governs the life of our planet, a comprehension (progressively developed) of the divine nature and of the Plan which, in obedience to the will of God, is increasingly conditioning world affairs. The laws governing the individual, humanity and the kingdoms in nature are studied and the whole Science of Relations (as it is unfolded in our evolving world) becomes the practical interest of the disciple. As he establishes right relations with himself, with the world of spiritual being, in the world of human living and with all forms of divine life, the awakening of his own nature will automatically take place, his centers will become vital sources of spiritual power, and his entire constitution will swing into rhythmic activity and consequent usefulness. All this will, however, happen because of his correct adjustment to God and man, to his unfolding understanding of divine purpose and to his knowledge of the various scientific techniques and laws which condition all phenomena, man included.

A national curriculum is compulsory in all state schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and for virtually every pupil up to the age of 16. It is devised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and its partner authorities, the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales (Awdurdod Cymwysterau, Cwricwlwm ac Asesu Cymru - ACCAC) and the Northern Ireland Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA). Although it was introduced in primary and secondary schools between autumn 1989 and autumn 1996, it is an idea that has been common in other European countries for decades. The main aim of the national curriculum is to raise standards, making sure all children have a broad and balanced education up to the age of 16. In the past, many pupils dropped key subjects such as modern languages or science at 13 or 14. A second aim is to ensure that schools in all parts of the country are following the same courses. This has particular advantages for children who change schools when families move house from one area to another.

    Curricula in Health
The goals of the curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science in Health are to more effectively develop literate, informed professionals capable of making the world healthier and more humane. Students receive a general education through a broad exposure to information (Basic Education Block). They also receive a specialized education through course work designed to help them develop as a professional (Professional Development Block), expand their knowledge and skills related to health (Health Content/Skill Block), and prepare them for professional practice (Professional Practice Block). The curriculum in health offers two options: the Community Health Option and the School Health Option. The Community Health Option prepares health educators for work in public and/or voluntary health agencies. The School Health Option meets the requirements for teacher certification at the secondary level in Texas Public Schools. Students may elect to become certified in health (School Health Option I), or combine health with a second teaching field (School Health Option II). Courses for all options are grouped into four "blocks."

This is a three-year program designed to train students in the practical skills and knowledge required for the care, management, treatment and handling of animals. Relevant use of laboratory instruments required for diagnosis and treatment, such as x-ray, anaesthesia, and blood analysis equipment is an integral part of the training program. Our program concentrates on small domestic animals, exotic and laboratory animals. The program is intended for those who wish to pursue a career in a dynamic and challenging field while working with animals under veterinary supervision. Our program is fully accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). Description
The first three semesters of the program provide the student with a broad knowledge of biological, chemical and computer principles and techniques, and introduce the basics of animal care.
The fourth, fifth and sixth semesters are designed to train the students in specialized veterinary and laboratory techniques such as the identification of various tissues in the detection of diseases, pharmacology, nursing and surgical procedures, anaesthesia techniques, nutrition, blood and urine analysis, radiography, breeding, exotic animal care and the care of laboratory animals used for research purposes.
The sixth semester is mainly devoted to internships in government and private laboratories and in private clinics, coordinated by the Animal Health faculty. These rotations at various institutions provide the student with on-the-job training, permitting a realistic acquisition of techniques in a variety of situations. Students are expected to cover any increased living expenses related to internships.
