Dr. Loew passed away on April 22, 2003. The committee recognizes his noteworthy contributions to science and greatly appreciated his leadership, openness, honesty, insights and especially his wit. He will be missed. Description The focus of the report is on the U.S. Department of Agriculture and how it should refocus its $2 billion annual research budget to reflect changing public values and needs. It's emphasis should shift from increasing food and fiber production to frontier issues such as the impact of globalization on U.S. agriculture, diet and health, food safety, environmentally sound farming alternatives and the quality of life in rural communities. It goes on to discuss the need for high-level leadership to support new directions in food and agricultural research.

CIVITAS
Citizens for Planetary Health

and other educational materials
Civitas began in the early 1980s as the American branch of CIVIS, Swiss medical historian Hans Ruesch's international anti-vivisection organisation. Civitas published and distributed Mr Ruesch's books in North America. Since then, Civitas has enlarged and has broadened its scope greatly. It steadfastly maintains its commitment to the abolition of vivisection, or animal research. Citizens for Planetary Health represents the growth and expansion of the original, earlier Civitas. "Vivisection Is Scientific Fraud." It always was. It still is. It always will be, as long as it exists. As Civitas progressed rapidly, it didn't take long to learn vivisection is not the only scientific fraud. Other wholesale, wide-scale fraud kills or injures humans and imperils or compromises the global environment in which life exists. Civitas has documented, exposed and proposed reasonable remedies for and solutions to these frauds and their underlying causes. Go there now.

A Long Way To Go
The March/April Kaiser Family Foundation poll indicates that there's still a pretty big gap in America's knowledge about the new Medicare law despite some small gains since the previous poll conducted in February. When asked whether the bill creating a Medicare prescription drug benefit passed or not, a majority (71 percent) of younger adults (aged 18-64) said no or they didn't know. Among seniors, whom we might expect to be paying closer attention to this issue, 40 percent knew the bill passed, up from 32 percent two months ago. Continue reading "A Long Way To Go"
