Welcome to the Dance Department at Irvine Valley College. The mission of the department is to provide a high quality Dance Program that offers a breadth of Dance Education, Dance Performances, and Dance Movement Experiences of varying levels for students, faculty, and the community at large. In the two short years of existence, the number of course offerings has expanded from two to twelve. We currently offer dance technique classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, African, and a survey of varius techniques within the Indtroduction to Dance class. If you prefer a stretch/strengthen/alignment class, then you may want to consider the Conditioning course. Other courses include Choreography, Music for Dance, Dance History, Dance Rehearsals, and Performance (IVC Dance Ensemble), and Dance Team Leadership. Introduction
According to the National Education Association, Health Education is defined as "the process of providing learning experience which favorably influences understanding, attitudes, and behavior relating to individual and community health." Health is dynamic and multi-dimensional. The Health, Exercise Science and Athletics staff views health education from seven dimensions, aptly described in the SPECIES model: Social, Physical, Emotional, Career, Intelligence, Environmental, and Spiritual. Health Education attempts to heighten awareness by focusing on attitudes and behaviors of individual, assisting them in making informed decisions regarding prevention, behavior change issues and problem solving.
