The name 'Aliamanu' is a Hawaiian word which means 'the resting place of the birds". The school is located on a 15 acre parcel of land formerly belonging to the Navy. It is set in a geographical depression which at one time may have been a crater of an active volcano. Aliamanu is one of six intermediate schools that make up the Central Oahu District. 85% of our students are federally connected. Their parents are either on active military duty or are employed by the federal government. The school consists of 7th and 8th grades. The military rotation period, which is normally 3 years makes for a very mobile and transient student population. Current enrollment is approximately 946 students. We are part of the Radford High School complex. We are currently following the traditional Department of Education School Calendar for the Year. Daily Schedule: 7:55 am - 1:55 pm (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri)

Tobin, who has called Hawaii home since 1989, came to the islands to attend the University of Hawaii. This U.S. Army veteran had worked in restaurants and nightclubs, so he earned his way through the College of Business Administration by finding jobs at two of Waikiki's most popular night spots: Moose McGillicuddy's and the Hard Rock Cafe. Following graduation in 1995, Tobin joined Kiewit Pacific Company, the international construction contractor, where he learned the details of cost accountingbut found himself being drawn back to the restaurant industry. After two-and-a-half years with Kiewit, he returned to his passion and the Hard Rock Cafe. His degree and accounting skills made him a standout, and he soon found himself at the Lahaina Hard Rock. He was instrumental in the turnaround of that $9-million a year operation, and was promoted to assistant general manager. While on Maui, Tobin met noted chef Sam Choy, who persuaded him to be general manager of Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch, and Crab. With 14 years of experience under his belt, Tobin is now ready to put his experience to work by pursuing his dream of opening his own restaurant.

    School Finance and Facilities Study
School finance and facilities are critical in supporting the delivery of educational services. The Pacific Regional Educational Laboratory's (PREL's) School Finance and Facilities Study was designed to provide the ten entities of the Pacific region served by PREL - American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Federated States of Micronesia (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnepi, and Yap), Guam, Hawaii, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau - with a status report on these aspects of their education, as well as make this information available to other interested parties. Since these entities are diverse in their political status and level of economic development, their schools rely on a number of funding sources and operate under a number of organizational structures.
    Recommendations and Conclusions
Identify Education as a Priority: Pacific entities must identify education as a top priority. Expenses for education are not a single expenditure for a product or service but must be viewed as an investment in the future of each entity's society as a whole. Develop a Comprehensive, Implementable Education Plan:

Wednesday, May 12, 2004 Charter school wants state's legal defense By HUNTER BISHOP
Wai Ola Public Charter School wants the state Attorney General's Office to help defend it against legal challenges filed by the County of Hawaii and a private community association. But state Attorney General Mark Bennett has refused, saying his office disagrees with the publicly funded school's legal position in the case. The county filed a lawsuit in November seeking a court ruling on differences between the county and state over whether the school must obtain state land use permits for its move to a former flower farm on Ala Loop in Mountain View. School officials had purchased the 28-acre farm, known as Sunshine Farms, last summer after county officials told them the state permits were not needed. Bennett later disputed the county's position, and the Ala Loop community Association filed a counter-claim against the school seeking damages over allegations that it is a "nuisance" in the agriculturally zoned Mountain View neighborhood. Wai Ola director Libby Oshiyama says the charter school has no money for an attorney, however, and filed a motion with the state Supreme Court on April 29 to order the state AG to defend the school in court.
