Curtis P. Ho is an Associate Professor of Educational Technology in the College of Education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He received his B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from UH Manoa and his Ph.D. in Educational Technology from Arizona State University. He teaches and conducts research in online distance education, interactive hypermedia, and technology integration. Dr. Ho is also director of a college-wide outreach program, Professional Diploma in Education. Professional development courses are offered statewide over interactive television, cable TV and the web. He is currently principal investigator for Learning Enhancements through Innovation (LEI) , a U.S. Department of Education grant. Mollie Katz: (301) 652-1558 Embargoed for release with A.M. papers on Jan. 15, 1999 HAWAII RECEIVES $450,000 GRANT TO PROMOTE POLICY CHANGE SUPPORTING END-OF-LIFE CARE Hawaii Will Create Strategy Involving Health Professionals, Policymakers and the Public PRINCETON, N.J.—(Jan. 15, 1999) The State of Hawaii, Executive Office on Aging (EOA) today received a 3-year program grant of $450,000 to create a strategy that will involve health care professionals, policymakers, educators, social service workers and the public in promoting better care at the end of life. Hawaii has formed one of 15 statewide partnerships to receive funding under a new program encouraging state and community groups to reshape public policy to improve end-of-life care. Through its new grant program, Community-State Partnerships to Improve End-of-Life Care, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will award a total of $11.25 million over three years to up to 25 such coalitions, each of which will receive either a 3-year project grant or a 1-year planning grant. The grants will support broad-based, multidisciplinary coalitions that tap citizens, health care professionals and policymakers to identify problems, make recommendations and build public support for practical policies, regulations and guidelines to improve care of the dying. Planning grant recipients will have the opportunity to apply for funding later to implement their plans.

I. Objectives
The primary objective of the school library instructional technology center is to implement, enrich and support the educational program of the school. In the area of materials selection, the library instructional technology center should provide a wide range of materials on all levels of difficulty, with consideration for diversity of appeal and different points of view. These materials should include those found in the virtual library, i.e. via Internet and other online resources. Therefore, the library instructional technology center should:
  • Provide materials that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests, abilities, learning needs, learning styles and maturity levels of the students served.
  • Provide materials for teachers and students that will encourage growth in knowledge, and that will help to develop literary, cultural and aesthetic appreciation and ethical standards.
  • Provide materials which reflect the ideas and beliefs of religious, social, political, historical, and ethnic groups and their contribution to the local, national and world heritages and cultures, thereby enabling students to develop intellectual integrity in forming judgments.

The things we eat, drink, and wash with can mess up a fish's sex life. As they work through our lives and down our drains, some common chemical compounds can scramble the hormonal signals that rule fish development and reproduction. Dr. Swackhamer, an expert on these endocrine disrupters, will discuss her research on these chemicals and their impact on fish in the Duluth-Superior Harbor.

    Founded in 1934, The International School Nido de Aguilas is a private, non-profit, co-educational college preparatory day school that serves approximately 1100 students from more than 40 nationalities in grades pre-K through 12. Nido de Aguilas is fully accredited by the Chilean Ministry of Education, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States, and offers the full International Baccalaureate Diploma. The school is the official U.S. State Department Office of Overseas Education school in Chile, and serves the international business and diplomatic community as well as host country national students seeking a North American style of education. The school is governed by a Board of Directors.
    Santiago, the nation's capital as well as educational, business, industrial, and cultural center, is the home of approximately six million people. The national language is Spanish.
    Facilities include six laboratories, four computer labs, four art studios, two music rooms, seventy-three classrooms, three counseling centers, a college placement center, a gymnasium, and a media center which houses two libraries, audio-visual aids, in addition to instructional and conference facilities. The campus is fully on-line and students have access to computers throughout the school. The language of instruction is English at all levels.
    Maintaining a college preparatory focus, the high school offers courses that lead to three different diplomas: the U.S. High School Diploma, the National Chilean Diploma, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Over thirty IB Courses are offered in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Art, Drama, and Computer Science. Nearly all graduates attend colleges or universities.

    Kamehameha Schools Philosophy of Education Kamehameha Schools published its Philosophy of Education in January 2003 after a year-long process.
