161. International War Crimes Tribunal
It has never happened in history that a nation that has won a war has been held accountable for atrocities committed in preparing for and waging that war.

WAR CRIMES
A Report on United States War Crimes Against Iraq to the Commission of Inquiry for the International War Crimes Tribunal
by Ramsey Clark and Others Incinerated body of an Iraqi soldier on the "Highway of Death," a name the press has given to the road from Mutlaa, Kuwait, to Basra, Iraq. U.S. planes immobilized the convoy by disabling vehicles at its front and rear, then bombing and straffing the resulting traffic jam for hours. More than 2,000 vehicles and tens of thousands of charred and dismembered bodies littered the sixty miles of highway. The clear rapid incineration of the human being [pictured above] suggests the use of napalm, phosphorus, or other incindiary bombs. These are anti-personnel weapons outlawed under the 1977 Geneva Protocols. This massive attack occurred after Saddam Hussein announced a complete troop withdrawl from Kuwait in compliance with UN Resolution 660. Such a massacre of withdrawing Iraqi soldiers violates the Geneva Convention of 1949, common article 3, which outlaws the killing of soldiers who "are out of combat." There are, in addition, strong indications that many of those killed were Palestinian and Kuwaiti civilians trying to escape the impending seige of Kuwait City and the return of Kuwaiti armed forces. No attempt was made by U.S. military command to distinguish between military personnel and civilians on the "highway of death." The whole intent of international law with regard to war is to prevent just this sort of indescriminate and excessive use of force.

"It is a new and cheap American lie," an Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Information spokesman said. RELATED Gulf War veterans suing companies for chemical exports DALLAS, Texas (CNN) – As U.N. inspectors search Iraq for weapons of mass destruction – including chemical weapons – a U.S. researcher may be on the way to unraveling the mystery of Gulf War illnesses, and he says the ailment may be linked to low levels of chemical agents. Gulf War illnesses include a collection of symptoms such as chronic fatigue, skin rashes, muscle and joint pain, memory loss and confusion. The Department of Defense says about 20,000 veterans suffer from those illnesses. Veterans' advocates say the number is tens of thousands higher. The Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses declared in 1996 that "Stress is likely to be an important contributing factor to the broad range of illnesses currently being reported by gulf war veterans." Other possible, physiological causes were discounted. Dr. Robert Haley of the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, says the stress theory is wrong, dead wrong.

Bush and Rumsfeld plan tight control of information
By BBC News Online's Kevin Anderson in Washington While the US prepares for a war on terrorism, the media is preparing for a battle for information. When the firing starts, the information may cease
US military commanders in the Gulf War tightly controlled access to information during the Gulf War, restricting most journalists to escorted pools. And the media is concerned that President George W Bush's administration will have similar policies with respect to the control of information, especially owing the role key members of the present administration played in the Gulf War. Vice President Dick Cheney was then Secretary of Defence, and Secretary of State Colin Powell was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. But with special operations troops expected to take a lead role in the conflict, this might be a war fought mostly in secret.

With Editorial Commentary by Val Valerian World Wide Web Site: http://www.trufax.org Introduction (Applause) Thank you so very much. I am Joyce Riley, and I am here because I love my God and I love my country, and I love my fellow man. We are going to hear a story tonight that unfortunately is the saddest story, not only of the 20th century, but of America's history. You are going to hear about the destruction of the United States military. I am sorry to have to bring you this story. I wish it wasn't true. I wish that I could protect you from what you are going to hear tonight, because it has taken me a year to investigate this story. During that time, I went through the worst depression you can imagine. I finally came to the conclusion one day that - yes, our country had provided the biologicals to Saddam Hussein that were used on our troops.

Saddam claims victory in Gulf War
Saddam remains defiant 10 years after the Gulf War BAGHDAD, Iraq Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has declared a "victory over enemies" of the Arab world during the 1991 Gulf War in an address to his country to mark the 10th anniversary of the conflict. In a taped televised address, Saddam referred to the 33 countries which had taken part in the U.S.-led operation to oust Iraqi forces from Kuwait. "Iraq has triumphed over the enemies of the (Arab) nation and over its enemies," he said. Pro-Iraqi demonstrators took to the streets on Tuesday evening burning U.S. and British flags and protesting about 10 years of United Nations'-backed economic and military sanctions. Western leaders join Kuwait to mark Gulf War win
Kuwait's double celebration begins WEB EXCLUSIVE Christiane Amanpour: Kuwait not moving toward democracy KUWAIT CITY Kuwait marked the 10th anniversary of its liberation from Iraqi occupation Sunday, joined by former U.S. President George Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major. Iraqi troops overran Kuwait in August 1990 and were driven out by a Western-Arab coalition in February 1991. The weekend events mark a double celebration for the tiny, oil-rich Persian Gulf emirate, which marks the 40th anniversary of independence from Britain on Sunday and the liberation anniversary on Monday. Bush and retired U.S. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf arrived on Saturday, along with Major and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War, flew into Kuwait on Sunday as part of a four-day Mideast visit. 177. Brief Overview Of Persian Gulf War
Summary of events before during and after the war, from an Iraqi perspective. Described through various articles, pictures, audio and video samples.
http://www.geocities.com/iraqinfo/gulfwar/overview.html
Brief Overview of Persian Gulf War The 1991 Gulf War was hailed by many people, including those who prided themselves on their liberal outlook, as the first example of the New World Order made possible by the end of the Cold War. We were told that the international community, using the United Nattions as its founders intended, would defeat and probably overthrow a brutal dictator by means of weapons of clinical accuracy, deploying the minimum force possible, and hence pave the way for democracy and a lasting settlment of the problems of the Middle East. It is now clear that what happened was very different from this official explanation of events. The United Nations was actually taken over by the US to secure its strategic oil supplies at a time when the USSR was disintegrating. The bombing was on a horrific scale which inflicted untold suffering on the Iraqi civilian population both at the time and subsequently. A fedual king in Saudi Arabi was protected and the undemocratic Al-Sabah family was re-installed in Kuwait; Saddam's harsh regime, originally built up with enthusiastic Westren help, was actually consolidated in Iraq; and the double standards of the West, with respect to the Palestinians, stands out more glaringly than ever. When a superpower war machine gets going and the media puts itself at the disposal of the political leaders and generals who are cranking it up, all understanding is driven from the airwaves and the newspapers to ensure public support for that war. So it was during that short bloody conflict.
