HAYAMI AND MUTIO: A BRIDGE BETWEEN RACES
This is a shrine dedicated to the attraction between Hayami and Mutio in Blue Submarine No. 6. Some of you may now be crying out "But I thought Kino and Hayami were more of a couple! Besides, she's his own species!" They seem to be more of partners, each supporting the other out of a common purpose, and rarely agreeing. But I digress. The first thing I noticed when I was surfing the Anipike was the small amount of (good) sites dedicated to Blue Submarine No. 6. Barely any character shrines. So I decided to create a site to my favorite couple out of the small, four-episode series. Mutio is an original as a feline mermaid, and Hayami is the typical stormy, righteous main character. Together, they balanced each other, and guided the other through an extremely tumultous time. I hope you enjoy your stay here. If you do not agree with me for a good reason, or have found flaws, please e-mail me or sign my guestbook. I'd love to hear from you!

Usage: Greek Mythology (Latinized)
Pronounced: a-KAN-tha
Derived from Greek akantha meaning "thorn, prickle". In Greek legend she was a nymph loved by Apollo. ACHILLES m
Usage: Greek Mythology (Latinized)
Pronounced: a-KIL-eez
Meaning unknown, perhaps derived from Greek achos "pain" or else from the name of the Achelous River in Greece. This was the name of a warrior in Greek legend, one of the central characters in Homer's 'Iliad'. The bravest of the Greek heroes in the war against the Trojans, he was killed by an arrow to his heel, the only vulnerable part of his body. ADONIS m
Usage: Greek Mythology
Pronounced: a-DAH-nis, a-DO-nis
From the Semitic Adonai , which means "lord". In Greek myth Adonis was a handsome young shepherd killed while hunting a wild boar. The anemone flower is said to have sprung from his blood. Because he was loved by Aphrodite, Zeus allowed him to be restored to life for part of each year. The Greeks borrowed this character from various Semitic traditions, hence the Semitic origins of the name. ADRASTEIA f
Usage: Greek Mythology Feminine form of ADRASTOS . This was another name of the Greek goddess Nemesis. ADRASTOS m Usage: Greek Mythology Means "not inclined to run away" in Greek. This was the name of a king of Argos in Greek legend.

The Faerie Realm Welcome to the Realm of the Faerie Queen, home of the fey. Most often our land is called the Realm of Faerie, but it is sometimes known as the land of song and dance. These are my pages, concerned with only the aspects of life within Faerie. Within these pages you can learn more about the denizens that inhabit my realm, the strange beasts that are our pets and our steeds, as well as those that roam wild across my mystical lands, and the lands that make up my world, and anything else that i believe mortals should be aware First, I shall say a little about myself. You can learn about my mortal visage from my front page but my true self is completely different. I am nearing my four hundreth birthday, which is still young for a faerie. I am just over six foot tall, slender, with long, ankle length white hair with thin streaks of pink, purple, blue and green, and violet eyes. I am a full blooded elf, I am kin to the most famous of faeries, Titania and Oberon. A note. The personal names that i have used for myself and my faerie subjects are assumed names. Faeries believe that names hold power. We will never, ever give out our true name to anyone, unless they are fae, or they cast a spell that forces us too.

This site is designed to draw together the ancient texts and images availableon the Web concerning the major figures of greek and Roman mythology.
http://web.uvic.ca/grs/bowman/myth/
When I began to write my history I was inclined to count these legends as foolishness, but on getting as far as Arcadia I grew to hold a more thoughtful view of them, which is this. In the days of old those Greeks who were considered wise spoke their sayings not straight out but in riddles, and so the legends about Cronus I conjectured to be one sort of Greek wisdom. In matters of divinity, therefore, I shall adopt the received tradition. Pausanias, Description of Greece

About the Project
This site is designed to draw together the ancient texts and images available on the Web concerning the major figures of Greek and Roman mythology. We were most interested in bringing together the ancient sources and illustrations, but have included some Renaissance images that were just too good to leave out. The site is primarily intended for the use of Greek and Roman Mythology students at the University of Victoria, but feel free to look around!

139. Mythology Of The Seven Sisters (Pleiads)
greek legends on the Pleiads, compiled by Steven Gibson, University of Calgary.
http://www.ras.ucalgary.ca/~gibson/pleiades/pleiades_myth.html
F. E. Fillebrown engraving of The Dance of the Pleiades by Elihu Vedder

Pleiades Mythology
The mythology associated with the Pleiades cluster is extensive; Burnham alone devotes eight pages to the subject, and Allen more than twice that number (see references ). Here only Greek legends are presented. Even so, these are manifold and often contradictory, being patched together from many different cultures over a long period of time. Further uncertainty is added by most Pleiads sharing names with otherwise unrelated mythological characters. So enjoy, but please do not consider this information to be infallible.
Possible Name Derivations
  • plein , `to sail', making Pleione `sailing queen' and her daughters `sailing ones.' The cluster's conjunction with the sun in spring and opposition in fall marked the start and end of the summer sailing season in ancient Greece.
  • pleos , `full', of which the plural is `many', appropriate for a star cluster.
  • peleiades , `flock of doves', consistent with the sisters' mythological transformation.
Genealogy
tel- tla- , `to lift, support, bear'), another titan, led their war against the gods, and was afterward condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens on his shoulders. The Pleiades were also nymphs in the train of Artemis, and together with the seven Hyades (`rainmakers' or `piglets'; individual Hyad names are not fully agreed upon) were called the Atlantides, Dodonides, or Nysiades, nursemaids and teachers to the infant Bacchus. The Hesperides (`nymphs of the west'), apparently not counted in this, were only three, and dwelled in an orchard of Hera's, from which Heracles fetched golden apples in his eleventh labor.
