Education in Norway
Norwegian educational policy is rooted in the principle of education for all, and organized within a framework of lifelong learning. All members of society, from all social and cultural backgrounds, have an equal right to education regardless of where in Norway they live. It is the goal of national educational activities to provide all individuals with the same rights, obligations and opportunities for participation in further education, family life and working life in keeping with their aptitudes and interests. Teaching at Norwegian schools is to be adapted to the abilities and skills of the individual participants. Special education is available for persons with disabilities or those with special needs who are otherwise unable to participate in ordinary school teaching activities. As a result of the increase in immigration, the number of pupils belonging to language minorities is on the rise. Norwegian education policy requires that consideration be given to the special needs of language minority pupils in order to better enable them to complete upper secondary education and pursue higher education and employment. Nordic collaboration on this issue has been established under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Storting (Norwegian national assembly) and the Government are responsible for specifying the objectives and establishing the budgetary frameworks for the education sector. The Ministry of Education and Research is the administrative agency in charge of educational matters, and is responsible for implementing national educational policy. Norway has a unified school system based on a common standard. A national curriculum has been introduced to help to ensure that government educational standards are met.

Sparta Sparta (also known as Lacedaemeon) is situated on the southern Pelloponesus, and was originally founded during the Dorian invasions. Where the Dorians had in some cities managed to emmesh themselves into a place of aristocratic neutrality with the general populace, in other cities, the Dorians held tight rule which relegated the native citizens to the status of serfs. Sparta was one such a city, where strict dominion was held over the city, and its occupants. Aries- God of war was a patron god of the city, of wars, battles, and warriors, and also of fearlessness in battle. Artemis of the animals - Artemis was a patron Goddess of Sparta, also associated with warriors, and adolescence, specifically when dealing with changes from childhood to adulthood. The city of Sparta was originally founded during and after the Messenean War, in which the Dorian Spartans crossed the Taygetus mountains and took the territory of the Messenia. However, the original occupants of Messenia did not easily submit to the Spartans rule, and thus, in 640 BC the Messeneans revolted. The revolt nearly defeated the Spartans, but they managed to hold strong and continued their rule over the Messenean region. However, obviously outnumbered by the native population of Messenia, and accompanied by other political stresses, the Spartans responded by enacting a military government, or a military oligarchy, formulated by Lycurgus. In such an oligarchic polis, the native population were relegated to the status of agricultural slavery, or

Title: Greece in the Information Society - 7. Cultural policy in the Information Society
    7. CULTURAL POLICY IN THE INFORMATION SOCIETY
7.1. AN AMBITIOUS POLICY FOR CULTURE IN THE DIGITAL AGE
The digital revolution has made of computers and the new world-wide networks true means for creation and communication. Rapid technological development goes hand-in-hand with the development of content for the new networks and especially of content of a cultural character. Networks such as the Internet facilitate the world-wide diffusion of this content, create new ways of access to artistic creation, and change radically the structure and the content of the "cultural industry".
The Greek cultural heritage shows that technology and civilisation are two concepts that cannot be separated. It is therefore only natural that in our country, which holds a large share of the world cultural heritage, the use of information and communications technologies for the digitisation, documentation, management, promotion and advancement of Greek civilisation and modern artistic work should be an important aspect of overall cultural policy.
The cultural policy for the Information Society in Greece focuses on a number of goals:
The promotion of Greek culture and modern artistic work.

There will always be critics. Even when things are going pretty well, when the government is relatively stable, when more people than ever are living well, when the future looks promising even at these times, there are those whose need to speak out overcomes their mute acceptance of the status quo. PLATO 'S description of SOCRATES shows the grizzled sage to be one such critic.
Socrates is typically Greek in his relentless questioning of himself, of authorities, of accepted traditions and practices. And Socrates' questioning displays another characteristic associated with the Greeks a belief in the capacity of the mind (rationality) to apprehend the universe and a concomitant belief in the power of language to come to terms with that understanding.
Not all Greek critics chose Socrates' direct approach. ARISTOPHANES play Lysistrata hilariously lambastes war-mongers. Despite its playful ribaldry, Lysistrata was written at a time of great duress, when the welfare of the fragile Athenian city-state was threatened from hostile forces both inside and out. Yet, the play's parody displays its profound critique of contemporary society.
