Book Review:
The Naval History of Great Britain, vol 1 : 1793 to 1796
By W.M. James
Naval History of Great Britain: From the Declaration of War by France in 1739 to the Ascension of George IV, Vol. 1 Well, The Naval History of Great Britain vol 1 is an absolute treasure trove of information on the Royal Navy during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, containing more than 400 pages of excellent detail on the Royal Navy between 1793 and 1796. It was written by William James, a lawyer turned historian, who felt the need to put right some of the propaganda used by America against the Royal Navy during the War of 1812. James felt decidedly put out by US claims that their vessels defeated equal or larger Royal Navy ships in single combat and spent years talking to survivors, measuring ships and comparing guns. He found that the British did not lose one engagement to an equal vessel and so began his examination of Great Britain's naval history.

Elizabeth II, queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Broadcasts Christmas message "Let us remember the many undernourished people, young and old, scattered throughout the world." (December 25, 1963) On December 25, 1963, in the tenth year of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II delivered her annual Christmas greeting to her subjects in Great Britain and around the world. The English monarch spoke of the tumultuous past year and her hopes for the year to come. She also praised the people of the Commonwealth for their support of the international campaign to end hunger, and asked them not to forget the world's less fortunate citizens on that Christmas Day. Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of King George VI, was crowned queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on June 2, 1953, in a lavish ceremony witnessed by millions on live television. A very popular queen, she traveled more extensively than any other reigning British monarch and eventually had four children with her husband Philip MountbattenPrince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

Round Table History
The first Round Table was formed in Norwich, England in 1927. The founder, Louis Marchesi, was a young member of Norwich Rotary Club who felt a need existed for a club where the young business men of the town could gather on a regular basis. At their meetings they could exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues and play a collective part in the civic life of Norwich. Within a year of inception the membership of this Round Table had grown to 85 and interest was being shown in establishing Round Tables elsewhere. From a very early stage it was agreed that Round Table would be a non-religious, non-political club and this has continued to this day. A second Round Table was established in Portsmouth and subsequent growth was rapid, with 125 Tables and a membership of 4,600 by the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Round Table proved it had international appeal with the first overseas Table formed in Copenhagen in 1936. During the war years Round Table in Denmark continued to expand although in the British Isles activity was restricted and was in the nature of a 'holding operation'. After 1945 the pattern of growth was rapidly re-established with Tables being 'chartered' all over the UK. Today there are about 1,000 Tables with a membership of around 13,000. Round Table now flourishes in the majority of European countries, throughout Africa, the Middle East, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand and America. In fact Round Table is represented in every continent of the World.

THE HISTORY OF ROTARY
On February 23, 1905, Chicago lawyer, Paul P. Harris , called three friends to a meeting. What he had in mind was a club that would kindle fellowship among members of the business community. It was an idea that grew from his desire to find within the large city the kind of friendly spirit that he knew in the villages where he had grown up. Room 711 of the Unity Building at 127 North Dearborn Street in downtown Chicago, Illinois, was the site of Rotary's first meeting on February 23, 1905. At that time, it was the office of Gustavus Loehr, a mining engineer and one of the founding members of the organization. The four businessmen didn't decide then and there to call themselves a Rotary club, but their get-together was, in fact, the first meeting of the world's first Rotary club. As they continued to meet, adding others to the group, they rotated their meetings among the members' places of business, hence the name. Soon after the club name was agreed upon, one of the new members suggested a wagon wheel design as the club emblem. It was the precursor of the familiar
