It is not possible to parse VRML files using a context-free grammar. Semantic knowledge of the names and types of fields, eventIns, and eventOuts for each node type (either built-in or user-defined using PROTO or EXTERNPROTO ) shall be used during parsing so that the parser knows which field type is being parsed. The '#' (0x23) character begins a comment wherever it appears outside of quoted SFString or MFString fields. The '#' character and all characters until the next line terminator comprise the comment and are treated as whitespace. The carriage return (0x0d), linefeed (0x0a), space (0x20), tab (0x09), and comma (0x2c) characters are whitespace characters wherever they appear outside of quoted SFString or MFString fields. Any number of whitespace characters and comments may be used to separate the syntactic entities of a VRML file. All reserved keywords are displayed in boldface type.

Eastern Time Hi, Folks,
Welcome to the Grammar Lady Web site. My name is Mary Newton Bruder a.k.a. The Grammar Lady.
The purposes of the site are to be helpful, to raise consciousness about correct language use, and to remind everyone of the ways to have fun with language. I hope you will take the time to explore the different sections of the site and come back often to see what's new.
The Grammar Hotline/Web site is a one-woman, free service, which I operate at considerable expense (currently without outside support). The purpose is to answer quick grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other points about language.
If you need proofreading and editing help, I will be happy to quote you my rates.
There are several ways to contact me. During hours of operation noted in the left margin, you can call me on the Hotline number. Please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) before calling.
E-mail will reach me if you click on the blue letters just ahead. grammar lady There is a charge for answers by e-mail. There have been so many questions that I can no longer handle the site and the hotline by myself. Others will be working on the site, but I will answer all the messages. Welcome to Loglan.org
Loglan is an artificial human language originally designed/invented by James Cooke Brown in the late 1950's. He has worked on it ever since with the help and input of many volunteers. Three Old Men of Loglandia: From left to right: James Brown (founder), Bob McIvor (chief grammarian), Alex Leith (first Loglan novelist)
What's New
  • I have uploaded a minor update to the Macintosh version of the Loglan Online Dictionary (LOD). This fixes a display problem under MacOS X.
  • Robert McIvor has been compiling the notes generated by James Cooke Brown and Alex Leith while preparing the novel First Visit to Loglandia , the first part of which recently appeared in La Logli Chapters of the notes will be posted, along with the original Loglan and English texts, as they become available.
  • John Kennedy has made available a beta version of the LOD (Loglan Online Dictionary) rewritten for Java 1.3 or better.
  • For Programmers: The Loglan Institute is making the source code for its various software products available for download.
For Beginners
  • What is Loglan?

pyparsing an object-oriented approach to text processing in Python
Download here! I've always been lex/yacc-challenged, but have several times in my career been thrust into the position of having to parse text of varying form and style. I've had to re-implement an algebraic infix notation parser on 3 or 4 separate occasions, had to process listing and equipment control input files and output reports, in a number of different environments and implementation languages. I've also had similar feelings for regexp's as I have for lex/yacc, that I was reluctant to introduce another technology and syntax for trying to represent data format and program code. I finally decided to implement a class library that I could use to easily and directly configure syntax definitions for any number of text parsing applications. Ironically, about the same time, an old friend of mine, Steve Metsker, was just finishing his book, Building Parsers in Java , that takes a very similar approach to this problem. I recently took up Python, and as an exercise, looked at the opportunity to implement such a class library using Python. It turns out that this was a much more pleasant project overall, especially since the Python language provides some native features that really lend themselves well to this kind of project (native dictionary type, operator overloading, and dynamic object attributes).
