Heatwave threatens grain crops
5 Jan 2004
Heatwave conditions in northern and central New South Wales over the Christmas-New Year period have threatened summer crop prospects. Sorghum and sunflower crops have been scorched by high temperatures and desperately need soaking rains within the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, cotton crops across north west NSW are recovering the yield potential lost in the cooler conditions through October and November, but are now battling insects. Many growers are also short of irrigation water and depending on in-crop rains.
The lack of a decisive end to the drought and forecasts of below-average rain for much of NSW over the coming three months are of concern. Although the proportion of NSW affected by drought has fallen from 99.5 per cent in April to 61.3 per cent in December, many areas could retreat into drought in just a few weeks.

Abstract
New crop cultivars and advanced experimentals from public and private agencies must be developed for the continued viability of crop and crop-livestock systems. The objective of this research is to identify the genotypes of hard red winter wheat (HRWW), hard red spring wheat (HRSW), durum spring wheat (durum), spring barley (barley), and spring oats (oats) that are best adapted to growing conditions in southwestern North Dakota. To do this, 31 HRWW, 47 HRSW, 39 durum, 18 barley, and 35 oat cultivars were evaluated in separate adaptation experiments at Dickinson in 1997. Selected cultivars of each crop also were evaluated at Hannover, as were HRSW cultivars at Beulah. Arapahoe, CDC Kestrel, Seward, and Roughrider were among the highest yielding cultivars in the HRWW experiment at Dickinson. Differences in yield were not detected at the P
Introduction
Crop production is a significant income generator for southwestern farmers and ranchers. Cash receipts from crops accounted for 52% of total farm income in the South Central, Southwestern, and West Central Crop Reporting Districts in 1994 (Anonymous, 1996). When government payments were considered, more than 57% of farm income came directly from cash receipts for crops. This excludes the value of forages grown and fed directly to livestock on farms.

Wheat, barley top grain crops along front range Agriculture is Montana's No. 1 industry and the bedrock of the local economy in the small, rural communities along the east slope of the Rockies. This vast, rolling state encompasses 93 million acres of mountains, forests, foothills and prairies. A whopping 56.5 million acres or 63 percent of the state's total land is held by farmers and ranchers. Of all the states, Montana is second in the nation with land in farms and ranches, behind only Texas. Montana has some 27,600 working farms and ranches. As of 1997, the last year in which a Census of Agriculture was done, Teton County had 557 active farms encompassing 1.1 million acres of land. Montana's farmers and ranchers are primarily independent family operators with parents and children forming the core workers on their property. Along the East Slope of the Rockies, the farmers are predominantly small-grains producers and cattle ranchers. Since the mid 1990s, the agricultural industry here has been depressed as a combination of factors have led to low grain and cattle prices. Farmers and ranchers here have had to struggle for survival, culling non-producing cattle from their herds, using only the most efficient management practices, and hoping that the economy will again begin to nudge upward. For the past four years, large portions of the land along the Front has received below-normal precipitation, deepening drought conditions. Hope continues that the dry weather pattern will abate in 2003.

Wild Oats Grain Market Advisory
A market is a process of price discovery. You want to know the most buyers will pay. Buyers want to know the least that will persuade farmers to put adequate supplies on the market.
In any market, including our grain markets, those with the most information will do better, over time. Maybe the lucky will hit it right now and then, and have something to boast about. But those who methodically accumulate information will always tend to do better, as they deserve. An easier, less expensive way to get real information
If I offered you an opportunity to drive 50 miles once a week to buy coffee and listen to two experts with different sources of true information about the market, you would be wise to take me up on this offer. It would cost you 100 miles of driving expenses [maybe $30], plus a buck for the coffee, and three hours of your time which is an important expense. But it could pay off.
I have a much better offer:
  • same two experts, with different sources of information about grain and oilseed markets

    Introduction
Industrial hemp ( Cannabis sativa ) is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. For centuries, its fibres have been used to make ropes, sails and clothing. The species was banned in North America in the 1930s because its leaves and flowers contain a hallucinogenic drug known as delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It was banned internationally in 1961 under the United Nations' Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. In 1998, Canada created Industrial Hemp Regulations under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. These regulations allow for the controlled production, sale, movement, processing, exporting and importing of industrial hemp and hemp products that conform to conditions imposed by the Regulations.

agricultural broking for farmers and the trade marketing in fertilisers, grain and specialist crops
    Company Profile
Aims:- To enable the grower to achieve the most satisfactory sale or purchase of any given commodity they wish to trade within our portfolio. Activities:- As a company our tendencies lie with the growers' requirements and our aim is to secure the most favourable transaction regarding price, execution and follow up details. It is in our interest to seek out the best deal in the trade for the grower, as this relates directly to our funding, if we cannot find the best transaction then we will not be paid, it's as simple as that !!!!!! The most beneficial factor of brokering is we can place a producer with the best consumer and a consumer with the best producer, all without membership fees or commission charges.
