In the beginning, people didn't need any government, because there were so few people. Mostly people lived just with their own family or with one or two other families, and the older men and women decided what to do, without any system for deciding. If you didn't like how things were being done , you could always go out on your own, or join another family nearby. During the Old Stone Age and the Middle Stone Age , everyone lived this way. But as there got to be more people, they began to live in larger groups. It became difficult to decide what to do without anybody in charge. At this time, probably during the New Stone Age , people first began to have governments. Basically a government is a way for a large group of people to make decisions. Because some places got crowded sooner than other places , people began to have governments sooner in some places than in others.

152. Valitsemine
Essays on democracy, reform and the United States government.
http://www.geocities.com/goo798_eh2/Valitsemine.html
"Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. To take action in the face of a corrupt government entails risks of harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one's self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice. Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all."
Michaell Rivero
The U.S. Government
Democratic?
Valitsemine is Estonian for government. There are different governments that exist in the world, however, the one that seems to get the most attention or the one that many countries want to emulate is the United States' government. However, contrary to popular belief, the government under which the United States currently operates is not a "democracy." Why not? Well, let's check out "Why" from KRS-One's "The Sneak Attack" album. The lyrics to the introduction are below: [KRS-One] Class in session. What, is, democracy?

Substantial hidden costs imposed on the private sector
by federal, state, and local government regulations By Michael Hodges - email
updated March 2004
- a chapter of the Grandfather Economic Reports Government is costing us more than the taxes we see,
because it's difficult to see the extra cost of complying with government regulations. Complying with government regulations consumes $1.3 Trillion
- 14.9% of the economy - $4,477 per man, woman and child - - adding this regulation cost to $12,990 government spending per person
equates to $17,467 per person of government impact - - federal expenditures on regulatory activity increased 2.7 times faster than economic growth since 1960 - - at 14% per year compounded - Government mandated regulatory compliance costs are huge economics of our young generation at incalculable risk
(Nobel Laureate Dr. Milton Friedman continually stressed the importance of studying this critical area in various letters to the author. How right he was!) [This Regulation Cost report includes picture-charts that you have not seen, and is part of the series of

159. Official Web Site For Direct Democracy And Human Rights
PGOV is the Triple Law campaign, to prohibit money for political campaigns; to monitor to protect public office; to allow people to repeal any law. Candidates will campaign primarily for a triple law on government , will resign when the triple law is passed, and be uncorrupted by avoiding and opposing private media for election publicity. Opposes corrupt and fraudulent democracy. PGOV espouses direct democratic and anarchist or libertarian and antiwar principles, but throws some odd statements into the immigration and religion topics!
http://pgov.org/
home who we are about this site links
Our goal: to help all living things on earth and not be in charge of some food drive, fund raiser or another corporate media source acting as "for the people" If you are new to this, and you only read parts of this web site, you may get an impression that we are racists, conspiracy theorists or just people without jobs and nothing better to do - none of those 3 is true. Biggest deception: media . Government and media now work as a team: They understand that if media were only to push pro government agenda, all of us would quickly lose faith in them considering them bias and therefor it would lose its' power to manipulate elections. So media criticises government (when it matters little or none to their agenda) - Media plays a government watcher so we can relax and put our trust in them making sure government is in check. - They will expose and even fabricate to expose hypocricy of politicians. this serves one important purpose: we are convinced that media and government are two absolutely different players. but they're not: All media needs to do to make their team win is, when election time comes, suggest to us viewers who is standing where in the public opinion polls, and like a lifeform given oxygen, their chosen candidate survives and gets elected by us.
