Statistics The Nashville Public Library participates in the Federal Depository Library Program First designated in 1884, the depository serves the 5th U.S. Congressional District of Tennessee. As a selective depository we currently acquire over 20% of the entire Government Printing Office output. In addition to the basic core collection , we select most of the standard titles recommended by the FDLP for public libraries our size. Our selection is based on the needs of our diverse user population, with strong representation in the areas of commerce, labor, and law. We also have a unique historical collection in the areas of agriculture, military history, and the Census. The Government Documents collection is located in the Periodicals Department on the third floor of the downtown Nashville Public Library. This entire reference collection is available to the public. About the Service and Collections
Carrier Library has been named by the U.S. Senate as a selective depository of federal publications since 1973 and an official depository of Virginia state documents since 1978. The collection contains over half a million pieces and a growing number of electronic sources. These publications come from every area of government: education, agriculture, military, commerce, environment, justice, legislation, technology, energy and many more. Carrier Library's government documents may be located by using the LEO library catalog. Government Documents: Sources. will provide links to government documents on the web.
Location
Carrier Library is located on the west side of campus next to Burruss Hall, close to the intersection of Grace Street and Mason Street. If you are driving into campus you should stop at the Parking Department to obtain a visitor parking permit. The Parking Department is located at 921 South Main Street in Shenandoah Hall directly across from the University's Quad. Hours of Operation
The Government Documents collection may be used during Library Hours when the library is open. Professional assistance is available at times the Reference Desk is open. Call (540) 568-6267 for assistance.

The American Battlefield Protection Program helps states, communities, non-profit organizations, and individual citizens become the stewards of significant historic battlefields. The ABBP staff provide assistance with acquisition, preservation, management, and interpretive plans for battlefields; make site visits; and are available to participate in public meetings concerning battlefield preservation.

This collection includes reports with statistical addenda issued by the Office of the Military Governor of the American zone in post-World War II Germany. Reports cover every aspect of the economic, political, and social reorganization of occupied Germany, 1945-1953. The monthly reports are arranged chronologically and are structured individually by topic. The larger reports have their own indexes. No general guide or index is available for this collection.

Finding Military Records
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is 'the official repository for records of military personnel who have been discharged from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard. NARA has compiled an extensive page on Access to Military Service and Pension Records , which gives detailed information on how to acquire military records from the U.S. Government. They also have a very comprehensive page on doing Research in Military Records , which provides research information on each war for which NARA has records.
