We are also looking for undergraduate students who are interested in seeking the Bilingual Education Endorsement. The most qualified of these students will be accepted into the Project TEACH program. Project TEACH , in collaboration with Office of Student Services Personnel, will provide academic guidance and mentoring to project participants in order to ensure a successful transition to Arizona State University and the Initial Teacher Certification Program (ITC) in the College of Education. Participants will also be enrolled in course work, workshop seminars, and field-based experiences that will prepare them for a career in the teaching profession. IHE PARTNERSHIP (Institutions of Higher Education) Project TEACH is a collaborative venture between Arizona State University (Main Campus) and four community colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District. The four Partnership Community Colleges are:

What to teach a child aged 13-18:
Most young teenagers have started to assume more if not most of the responsibility for short term expenses. To satisfy an increased level of wants, many have found ways to earn extra money and supplement their allowance through a part-time job or some form of self-employment. Now, they're ready to understand more advanced financial terms like inflation ; use some of the different types of money and various ways of banking (e.g. ABMs PC Banking , etc.); and practice more sophisticated forms of investing through vehicles in the CIBC SmartStart Program like the CIBC Save-Up GIC and the CIBC Mutual Funds Youth Portfolio The Allowance Room and Money Machine and the Investment Game are two other ways to combine a bit of fun with their banking education.

Deciding to Teach Them All Asking the right questions has an enormous impact on how we pursue equity and excellence in our classrooms. Carol Ann Tomlinson Several years ago, I was talking with a colleague who was teaching in a center-based school for students whose IQ scores registered above 140. She thought deeply about how to stretch her students, whose ceilings of possibility often go unexplored in hetero-geneous classrooms. She was a good teacher in that setting. She knew it. Her students knew it. Their parents knew it. So I was surprised by what she said that day. "I want to go back to a general education classroom next year," she began. I want to see what would happen if I tried teaching this curriculum to a varied group of students. I believe I could make it work, and it's important to me to know whether I can. To say that no problems emerged and that everyone rose fairy-tale-like to the challenge would be satisfying. But it would not be honest. The truth is that my friend had to make many adaptations in her new classroom that were not necessary in her former setting. She had to find time to work intensively with students who were not yet literate to ensure their growth in the gatekeeper skills of reading and writing. She had to find ways to support some students whose caregivers could not provide transportation, Internet access, or project materials. She had to teach inquiry skills to many students who had not previously encountered them. She even had to figure out new ways to extend the advanced curriculum for students whose reach already exceeded its parameters when the year began.

Session 4 - Increasing Students' Choice and Decision Making Topic 4 Teaching Students Choice and Decision Making How to Teach Choice and Decision Making Teach students to use a self-monitoring system to evaluate their choices and decisions. On a regular basis, discuss with students they choices they have made and whether the choices were good ones. Discuss their plans for the future, such as living independently or participating in college athletics and help them prioritize their goals. First, provide students with opportunities for choice and then encourage students to exercise their rights to choose. Question students about how they made a choice, such as getting angry at a friend or changing jobs, and if they think they made a good decision. Students can learn much about making good choices through community and job training experiences. For example, they can learn to compare their expectations about a career area with their actual experiences on the job site. For example, they may think they are interested in child care as a career. However, after some time on the job, they realize this is not a good choice for them because they cannot tolerate noise very well. Keep an ongoing log of activities that students are involved in. If you see that they are not choosing to participate in many activities, provide suggestions for making choices and interacting with others, such as joining the track team. Give them positive feedback when they do make choices and increase their active participation.

Orlando, FL The nationwide survey of 1,200 Americans, conducted in July 2003, comes at a time when Americans are facing personal finance concerns of their own. An unstable economy, layoffs, skyrocketing personal debt, and an unprecedented number of people in bankruptcy raise important questions about who is truly the most qualified to teach the next generation about personal finance. "It is no secret that many school systems in this country do not have the resources to provide outside-the-home leadership in this arena that they are uniquely positioned to deliver," says Rebecca Stiehl, the senior vice president for Educational Services at InCharge Institute. "It is incumbent upon non-profit education organizations such as ours to help schools develop the tools they'll need for this monumental task. The education tools we develop - for both youth and adults - build crucial bridges toward our universal goal of educating future generations of consumers about the responsible use of credit." InCharge Institute has formed educational partnerships with national groups such as 4-H and the Jump$tart Coalition in an effort to reach the maximum number of children with its message. Children Can Learn About Money at Nearly Any Age ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO—There is no such thing as "too soon" when it comes to teaching children how to manage money, according to the president of a Colorado-based nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping Americans understand and control their own finances. "By starting early, and introducing the most basic ideas, you can help your child develop financial skills that will last a lifetime," says William L. Anthes, Ph.D., president and CEO of the National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®). Anthes outlines an approach that includes specific activities for children at various points in their development, with a special emphasis on the youngest learners. "Even toddlers can handle the concept of coins and currency. With ongoing reinforcement and information, children develop a strong sense of confidence in handling money, which can be invaluable in the long term." Virtually all the financial issues a child needs to understand fit within six general categories: earning money, goal setting, budgeting, saving and investing, using credit wisely and protecting what has been accumulated. The details within each category can be learned gradually, as a child is ready to absorb them. It also is important to present information in a logical and relevant way. Anthes suggests the following discussions and exercises for parents to use with their children as they move from early childhood to adolescence.

It's a big ask, but an important one. Just last week a Mission Australia report on poverty found that more than 145,000 15- to 24-year-olds were living in poverty. The rise in part-time and casual work and the easy availability of credit, plus a range of other factors, have created new challenges for younger people. Unfortunately, managing your finances still isn't widely taught at schools. The Financial Planning Association is pushing for better financial education and has released a financial planning workbook for teenagers, Dollarsmart, to try to kick the process along. Gwen Fletcher, a special adviser to the FPA's schools program, says while some teenagers can be very savvy about finance, it's easy to get into debt and develop bad financial habits. She says the most important thing for younger people to learn is how to prioritise their spending so that they can afford to buy the things they really want or need. "They'll be set up for life if they start good habits now," she says. "But that means getting away from thinking we all have to have everything we want."

JUGGLING What is juggling?
According to Webster's Dictionary it is, "...to keep several objects in motion in the air at the same time." Some jugglers will say it is the act of keeping more objects in the air than you have hands. A more broad definition would be the skillful and/or novel manipulation of one or more objects. This is a more useful definition for educational purposes. Young children who are handling only one or two scarves often perform skillful manipulations for their stage of development, so why not call it juggling?
What are the benefits of juggling?
Whatever a person's movement background, everyone can learn something from juggling. It is an ideal Physical Education and classroom activity which targets all three educational domains:
Psychomotor : Juggling is a skill which requires timing, hand-eye coordination, and throwing and catching skills. These encompass both gross and fine motor coordination.
Cognitive : To succeed in juggling students must understand the pattern, imagine and focus on a target for their throws, and comprehend the rhythmic cycling of the arms.
Affective : Juggling is an excellent task for teaching goal setting, , tracking of improvement, perseverance, and delay of gratification.
