Lesson Plans
Internet-Based Lesson Plans are examples of how the Internet can be used to help create effective Standards -based mathematics lessons. For example, some Web sites provide real-world data that can be analyzed or used to develop mathematical concepts. Other sites provide detailed information about areas in which mathematics is applied or contain tools that can be used to graph, visualize, or compute. This icon denotes use of an NCTM e-Example JAVA applet.

Lesson Plan on Myths, Folktales, and Legends Use this in the classroom to teach your lesson, use it when you teach, if you need a cross curricula project or send it home with the student if they are absent the day you cover myths, folktales, and/or legends. Grade? This lesson plan would be great for eighth grade or above; however, sixth and seventh grade may could concentrate on *animals in myths or another aspect of this. Beware some of the animals in myths may not be appropriate for younger students. Goal: To provide an understanding of and the background knowledge for the concepts of these different types of literature. Objectives:
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast characteristics of folktales, myths, and legends. Students will be familiar with some literature representative of all three types. Students will appreciate literature more having some background knowledge and history as a foundation to understanding it.
"Therefore, even the lover of myth is in a sense a philosopher; for myth is composed of wonders." Aristotle A myth is fiction something which is untrue. Mythology often addresses the theme of good conquering over evil. Scholars of mythology usually define a myth as a kind of story which attempts to interpret some aspect of the world around us. Design and Implement a Personal Fitness Plan
Overview: The NASPE national standards in physical education indicate a need for "students to exhibit a physically active lifestyle" and understand that "physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction." The goal of education is to facilitate a learning environment that encourages learning for all and provides opportunities for students to engage in, apply, synthesize and evaluate ones learning. The goal of the physical educator is to provide an avenue for students to participate in and establish lifetime health and fitness habits and goals. Once the teacher has provided instruction in a fitness center on the FITT principle, components of fitness, overload principle, specificity, safety and proper technique of all equipment, motivational and monitoring techniques and strategies, it is time to move from guided practice to independent practice. The overall goal is having all students through self - evaluation, create and implement a personal fitness plan to be carried out over ten physical education classes. Estimated Time: This unit is approximately 12 - 15 classes. Students will need to know proper technique and safety of all fitness room equipment prior to the unit of designing and implementing a fitness plan to be recorded in a journal over ten class periods.

    e-Business Plan: Business Goals
From a planning perspective there is a big problem with the mission statement you have written. It promises a lot but does not say how the company intends to deliver on that promise. That is why a business plan also needs goals. The purpose of this lesson is to assist you in writing several goals for your e-business. The lesson describes business goals through a list of characteristics and examples, and then provides instructions to write several business goals for your e-business plan. The lesson outline is:
    What is a Business Goal?
    Business goal characteristics
    Business goal examples
How to Write Business Goals What is a Business Goal? A goal is a statement that clearly describes actions to be taken or tasks to be accomplished by a company, a department or an individual. A business will have a number of goals, each describing a desired future condition toward which efforts are directed. If the goals are accomplished, then the business should be a success. The dual purposes of goal setting are (a) to establish a measure for evaluating the success of the business and (b) set priorities for its management and staff, who should be held accountable for the accomplishment of the goals. Goals help keep management focused on success and away from distractive activities that drain business resources and accomplish little.

    Level-Appropriate Questions
Start with basic "knowledge" questions and work up from there to gauge your students' level of understanding and to boost their confidence.
    • Level 1: Knowledge questions: Yes/No - Is this a book? Either/Or - Is this a book, or a pen? Who/What/When/Where - Where is the man? Who is eating? What is he eating? When does he eat breakfast? Why/How - Why does Jose work at night? How do schools in your home country discipline students? 'Essay' type - How do American schools compare to schools in your home country? What do you think is the most effective way to discipline children? Do you think that this method would work in all countries? Why or why not? How much independence should teenagers have?
    Lesson Planning
    • Consider your students' levels – Your students will come into class with an assessed ESL level. Every ESL level has a variety of target skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students must successfully complete the competencies in a given level in order to move to the next level. See the documents linked at right for more details.
