123. Hand Blown Glass Art By Bernard Katz
of clear crystal and a darker layer of colored glass. image and using his own specialtechniques of stripping the blank vessel becomes a finished work of art.
http://www.bernard-katz-glass.com/
Hand Blown Glass Designs of Bernard Katz are presented for your review. His Signature "Tree Series" shown below along with other unique glass art pieces can be seen in more detail throughout this site. Brilliant transparent colors are encased by clear crystal and darker layers of glass to create a unique piece of art. His work ranges from the naturalistic to the contemporary, complimenting the most gracious home decor or the corporate suite. The century old techniques of glass blowing are carried through to modern times by applying the artist's unique styles. Manipulating molten glass at temperatures in excess of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, he begins to shape the "glass" canvas. The process continues with the applications of clear crystal and a darker layer of colored glass. He then draws the image and using his own special techniques of stripping and blasting with fine grain sand, the blank vessel becomes a finished work of art.

124. Jen's Studio
Decorative and practical glassware created using centuriesold slumping techniques from a glass artist working in Melbourne, Australia.

And thanks for stopping by, visitor "Don't be a stranger" now you've found us! Jen is an original glass artist working in and around Melbourne, Australia. Her work is admired and purchased around Australia and around the world - items have been exported to Malaysia, Singapore, the USA, Italy and the United Kingdom. Jen's work was featured in the Melbourne Herald Sun "Home" magazine on 7th June 2003, and she is a judge in the arts and craft category at this year's Royal Melbourne Show.
All her work is hand-crafted using advanced kiln-fired "slumping" techniques. The glass is slowly heated to over 860 degrees Celsius, at which point it becomes liquid with a molasses-like appearance and "slumps" into the moulds that Jen has created. Then the glass is cooled again over some hours. Each piece of glass design reacts slightly differently during the slumping process: thus each piece of art produced is entirely unique. Multiple layers of glass can be "fused" together to create designs and shapes. Glass slumping, although it has been known since ancient times, is currently enjoying a revival. People enjoy its smooth beauty and charm, and the fact that no one piece is quite like the other, and that there will never be another produced quite like it. Minor variations in shape and finish are all part of the delight of this traditional craft.

130. Medieval Stained Glass Windows From Esslingen (Germany) - 1
Exhibit of 13th and 14thcentury German stained glass. Full-color images, with commentary on background, techniques, construction, and artistic themes.
http://www.bawue.de/~wmwerner/essling/english/glas01.html
Medieval stained glass windows
from Esslingen am Neckar
(Germany)
O ver 400 stained glass panes dating to the 13th and 14th centuries have been preserved in three churches in Esslingen. Practically all the themes found in the sculptural repertoire of the great French Cathedrals of this time are represented, including the Virtues and Vices. Even the everyday life of the citizens of Esslingen is reflected, in scenes from the Life of Mary. The windows give a unique insight into the Medieval world, and into the technical and artistic aspects of the production of stained glass. T he central attraction is the windows from the City/Parish church St.Dionysus, made between 1280 and 1330 and recently painstakingly restored. Stained glass windows from the Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady), built by and for the citizens of Esslingen from 1320-1508, and from the choir of the (previously) Franciscan church can also be seen in this Internet exhibition.

Art Preview: Glass Center's goal to foster creativity reflected in new installation Wednesday, May 15, 2002 By John Hayes, Post-Gazette Staff Writer Just a touch sets "The River" in motion. A wisp of breeze nudging the suspended mobile of oddly cut, hand-blown glass plates creates a ripple that grows to waves of light and shadow projected and reflected onto the walls, ceiling and floor of the Pittsburgh Glass Center gallery. As artist Robin Stanaway became familiar with Pittsburgh, she defined the city as a place that is "about motion and fluidity." With that idea in mind, she created "The River," a mobile of oddly cut, hand-blown glass plates. (Lake Fong, Post-Gazette) The installation by artist-in-residence Robin Stanaway, which opens to the public on Friday, is as much about light, glass and the physics of fluidity as it is about Stanaway's perception of her temporary Pittsburgh home.
