Although this subject is strictly speaking not Genealogy, we feel very strongly that the actions of the current British government are very much against the interests of the people of Gibraltar.
In referenda, the 30,000 people of Gibraltar have expressed, with 98% unanimity, that they wish to remain British and are opposed to any involvement by Spain in the government of the Rock. Talks are under way (in 2002) between the British and Spanish governments completely against the wishes of the Gibraltarians, who could be described as being more British than we British ourselves.
In 1713, the King of Spain signed the Treaty of Utrecht , w hich binds Britain, Spain and Gibraltar.
It provides that "The Catholic King does hereby for himself, his heirs and successors, yield to the Crown of Great Britain the full and entire propriety of the town and castle of Gibraltar, together with the port, fortifications and forts theunto belonging. And he gives up the said propriety to be held and enjoyed absolutely with all manner of right for ever without any exception or impediment whatsoever."
The British people on the Rock have the right to live in peace and free from Spanish bullying tactics at the border crossing - unless, of course, Tony Blair decides to renege on the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht. He would then go down in history as the instigator of the greatest injustice of modern times: the betrayal of our fellow citizens in Gibraltar.

THE GIBRALTAR TAX EXEMPT COMPANY NON-RESIDENT GIBRALTAR COMPANIES A company which is incorporated in Gibraltar, owned by non-residents of Gibraltar and managed and controlled by directors who reside and hold their board meetings outside of Gibraltar will be considered as non-resident. A non-resident company is not subject to Gibraltar corporation tax except on that part of the profit which is remitted to Gibraltar. In practice this means that a non-resident company may be totally exempt from Gibraltar corporate taxation provided that it does not maintain Bank accounts within Gibraltar. TAX RESIDENT OR EXEMPT? The non-resident company is cheaper as it is not subject to the fixed rate annual duty and other fees which are payable by the exempt company (see fee comparison below) but it is generally less convenient to manage due to the requirement to appoint non-resident directors and maintain Bank accounts outside of Gibraltar only. This may have tax implications in the home country of the directors - please see our notes on directors under the "Optional Services" section. ÊThe shares of a non-resident company would be subject to Gibraltar estate duty whereas the shares of an exempt company would not. ÊIn a world of ever changing fiscal legislation the 25 year guarantee enjoyed by the exempt company may prove particularly useful in the future. ÊIn addition to the above types of non tax paying companies Gibraltar offers two further types of company structure which may be extremely useful in a tax planning exercise:-

Description
Gibraltar has a banner which shows the arms of the colony (white with a red stripe at the bottom with a three towered, two tiered red castle in the white section. Each tower has a door and a window and from the door of the middle tower hangs a gold key which mainly overlaps the red stripe) which is used a the colonies flag. Graham Bartram , 27-SEP-1996 The Castle and Key and the "Montis Insignia Calpe" motto are one of the oldest battle honours in the British Army, and has figured as the badge of several regiments who defended Gibraltar during the sieges. The badge is borne on the Colours of several regiments. Todd Mills , 27-SEP-1996 Gibraltar's official flag is the Union Flag, though a banner of the original Spanish arms of the colony granted in 1502 has been in use by citizens since 1966 (Crampton adds it was "regularized" in 1982). An unsubstantiated report I've read details that the British Government objects to a banner of Spanish arms over a British colony and has forbidden its use.

Peter Caruana Loses Cool at the Royal Commonwealth Society
Compiled By GayToday Peter Caruana London, England
The Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Peter Caruana, has been strongly criticized here at the Royal Commonwealth Society over his government's "poor human rights record". During a question and answer session after his keynote speech, Mr. Caruana was quizzed by human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell who protested: "Gibraltar has the worst human rights record in western Europe" Mr. Caruana reacted aggressively, loosing his cool and calling Mr. Tatchell a "liar". The chairman of the meeting had to request Mr. Caruana to halt his counter-attack to allow other questions. "There was no need for the Chief Minister to react with such anger and hostility. His aggressive style did not go down well with many in the audience", said Mr. Tatchell. The Chief Minister was speaking at the Royal Commonwealth Society last night (Wednesday 1 May 2002), on the theme of Gibraltar's Right to Self-Determination.

Photographs may have been altered in order to enhance the stupidity involved, and the facts presented may have been altered for the purposes of satire. People are included on this website because they believe they know better than its residents "What is good for the future of Gibraltar", they are therefore setting themselves up as pompous targets for mirth and ridicule. If you feel any of the material is offensive, please tell us about it before anyone else. Remember, it is not as offensive as the people featured have been to us, and a website is a more civilised protest than throwing custard pies, bricks, petrol bombs or nuclear warheads. Gibraltar wants good, neighbourly, European relations with Spain based on reasonable dialogue and mutual respect. Spain is obliged to respect our EU and other rights, instead of ignoring them and persecuting Gibraltarians for the desire to retain their identity.

Arms of Gibraltar
Arms consisting of a triple-towered castle with a golden key dependent from the centre were granted to "The Most Loyal City of Gibraltar" by Ferdinand and Isabella in the year 1502. The original grant on vellum is now in the archives of the Municipality of San Roque.
The words usually found underneath the Arms are "Montis Insignia Calpe" , meaning "Badge of the Rock of Gibraltar" and these words also appear on the Colours of the Suffolk Regiment, which Regiment obtained permission to have the Arms of Gibraltar inscribed on their Colours in recognition of the gallant part they played in the Siege of Gibraltar. The words "Nulli Expugnabilis Hosti" meaning "Conquered By No Enemy" also occasionally appear under the Arms of Gibraltar, having been copied from the Official Seal of the Colony which consists of a picture of the Rock with these words underneath.
In 1869, a Circular despatch was sent to all Colonies requesting that a sketch of the Arms or Badge to be adorned in the centre of the Union Jack used by the Governor should be supplied to the Colonial Office. The sketch which was submitted by this Government on the 1 st January 1870, depicted the triple towered castle with dependent key with the words "Montis Insignia Calpe" underneath. This design was approved by the then Secretary of State and concurred in by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.
