Germany (Deutschland)
Country Profile

Flag of Germany Background:
As Europe's largest economy and most populous nation, Germany remains a key member of the continent's economic, political, and defense organizations.
European power struggles immersed the country in two devastating World Wars in the first half of the 20th century and left the country occupied by the victorious Allied powers of the US, UK, France, and the Soviet Union in 1945.
With the advent of the Cold War, two German states were formed in 1949: the western Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the eastern German Democratic Republic (GDR). The democratic FRG embedded itself in key Western economic and security organizations, the EC and NATO, while the communist GDR was on the front line of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact. The decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War allowed for German unification in 1990.

    Germany hit Saudis for eight
Klose celebrates the first of three goals SAPPORO, Japan (Reuters) Three goals from Miroslav Klose helped Germany to an 8-0 drubbing of dismal Saudi Arabia as the triple champions opened their World Cup campaign in stunning style at the Sapporo Dome on Saturday. Two headed goals by Klose and a strike each from fellow striker Carsten Jancker and midfielder Michael Ballack enabled the Germans to lead 4-0 at halftime of their first group E game. Klose completed the first hat-trick of these finals with another header after the break and defender Thomas Linke added a sixth in the 73rd minute before substitute Oliver Bierhoff (84) and Bernd Schneider (90) completed the humiliation.

Germany takes up key U.N. role
Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has said Germany is "not prepared to engage in adventures" Story Tools
SPECIAL REPORT War Tracker On the Scene Map U.S. Iraq ... Special Report LONDON, England Germany's opposition to a possible war with Iraq is likely to come under increasing attention as Berlin takes a seat on the U.N. Security Council. But German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has appeared to soften his opposition to military action, saying in his new year message: "We Germans know from our own experience that dictators can sometimes only be stopped with force." Last year Schroeder angered U.S. President George W. Bush by saying he would not support a war on Iraq militarily or financially. Now, as one of 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council, Germany is set to play an important role in deciding how the United Nations responds to the current arms inspections in Iraq. Germany will hold the Security Council presidency in February, a month which many observers have identified as the most likely time for war to be launched if Iraqi President Saddam Hussein fails to comply with U.S. demands to get rid of weapons of mass destruction. Iraq insists it does not have any such weapons.

State Arms of the old Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Hello and welcome to my Kruse Family home page. The earliest known Kruse, Marcus Kruse , my 7th great grandfather, was born about 1635 in Selow , Germany. The first known Kruse immigrants were four children of Johann Joachim Kruse , my great grand uncle; Johann, Friedrich, Wilhelmine, and Sophia. Johann's family sailed from Hamburg to New York on the ship Keplie in 1853, Fred's family and Wilhelmine Kruse Buller on the clipper ship John Bertram in 1857, and Sophia on the John Bertram in 1858. They settled around Wolcottsville, near Buffalo, in Royalton Township, Niagara County, New York. From New York, Johann's and Fred's families moved to Belle Plaine , Shawano County, Wisconsin in 1866. Following in 1869, on the steam ship Allemannia , were two more Kruses; my 2nd great grandmother, Maria Jenning Kruse and family, and Johann Joachim Kruse and family, along with a Schroeder and Thode families, and a
