Evaluating Resources Media Selection MLA Help Library Media Center Information About Providence's Library Media Center-
The Providence LMC is available to all students thirty minutes before and after school. It is an "open" media center in that all students are welcome to use the center on an individual basis throughout the school day. Group visits by high school classes are scheduled on request of the teacher. Elementary classes (grades K - 3) have a regularly scheduled library time in addition to personal use. Elementary classes, grades 4 -7, come frequently but not on a regular schedule. Our reference computers are available for individual student use unless reserved by a teacher. These computers are for academic work only. These are not to be used to "surf" the Internet or to check email. Circulation Rules:
Books are checked out for a two week period. They may be renewed if no reserve has been placed on the book. Some reference books may be checked out for overnight use. Magazines, newspapers, vertical file materials, cassette tapes, video tapes, etc. are normally for use in the media center only. Overdue fines are charged on a basis of ten cents per day, excluding weekends, school holidays and excused absences. Fines for overdue reference books and audio visual materials are fifty cents per hour. They may be checked out overnight by students at a teacher's request. Student copies of media center materials may be made on the pay copy machine in the two media centers. Printouts of computer reference sources are ten cents per page. Color printouts are $.25 - $1.00 per page.

Librarian cites school media policy Web posted August 10, 2000 Have a thought? Go to the @ugusta Forums
Editor, The Chronicle In reference to T. Williams' July 31 letter, I am the librarian she wrote about concerning the Harry Potter books. Ms. Williams not only misquoted me, but also left out some important facts. The librarian is not the sole person making decisions at the school. Each school has a media committee that plays an active role. In this case, a parent approached me about donating the first book in the Harry Potter series in honor of her son. Knowing there was a lot of controversy over the series, I called a media committee meeting made up of administrators, teachers, a community member and parents.

By: Jonathan Hayes Tifton Gazette The Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence is challenging not only students, but parents, teachers, grandparents and friends with their summer reading program, “Points for Books”. This summer (June 14-Jul 31), after finishing a book, Tift County residents will have an opportunity to raise book-buying money for their public school of choice by passing a test at the “Points for Books” media center location at the Tifton-Tift County Public Library. The media center features a computer program, “Accelerated Reader,” designed to present readers a 20-questions, multiple-choice test. “If you pass, you get points. Each point is worth 50 cents. Points are based on the scale of the book,” said Mike Brumby, who heads the educational foundation. Point records will be kept at the downtown library and data concerning each school’s progress will be released weekly through local radio and newspaper. In 1996, the program was introduced to Charles Spencer; Len Lastinger, Northside and the Junior High.

Similar Programs The Entertainment Technology Center is a unique graduate program. As such, it is difficult to answer the question, "What other schools offer a degree like yours?" There is no other program just like ours. However, there are some schools that have similar programs, and even other schools that offer programs in areas that people inquiring about the ETC are often interested in. In the spirit of collaboration, we offer the following list for your information. Also included on the list are research centers that do not grant degrees or certificates.
This list is in no way exhaustive, nor do we necessarily support or endorse any of these programs or institutions. This list will constantly be evolving as we discover what universities, colleges, and other schools are offering. To have your site listed, please email us:

Reading Raves Kahn Recommends Recommended Websites Suggested Summer Reading ... Home The Media Center at Haworth Elementary School serves all of the children from grades Kindergarten through 8. The library relies heavily on volunteers to help 511 students choose and check out books weekly from a collection of nearly 20,000 books. The Media Center has been the beneficiary of many fine books bought and donated at the annual HHSA Book Fair and through the generosity of Home and School allocations. This past spring, HHSA allocated funds to purchase new holiday books as well as wordless books which will be used in a writing project by sixth grade language arts students. At the Book Fair last fall, over 100 new books were donated by Haworth parents. Many thanks for your generosity. Stop in and visit the Library/ Media Center; parents may also become patrons and borrow books from the collection. Have you been "caught reading" lately?
