or contact your local hospital for information in your area. Description: The Cancer Treatment Center is a radiation therapy center with a Varian 600-C linear accelerator. The center performs external beam radiation therapy and high-dose brachy therapy. The center is staffed by a radiation oncologist, a nurse, two radiation therapists, a dosimetrist, and a medical physicist. There is also a chemotherapy area included in the facility. Time to tour facilities: Monday-Friday, 10:00a.m.-3:00p.m. Other places that correspond with this site: Tours of Oconee Regional Medical Center. Picnics are allowed. The hospital in your area may also have tours.
Varian 600-C Linear Accelerator Appropriate age levels: Middle School and High School Educational activities for Elementary: This age group would benefit from a general tour of the hospital and the grounds. The Cancer Treatment Center could be an addition to the hospital tour. A tour of these facilities will help reduce children's fears of hospitals by showing that hospitals are not only for sick people. Educational activities for Middle School: Career Opportunities - Research and interview various medical personnel and determine educational requirements for their fields.
