Candidate Education Forums
The Partnership and the Georgia School Boards Association are co-sponsoring a series of free education policy forums in June for state legislative and local school board candidates.
Education has become the centerpiece of many political platforms and agendas at local, state and national levels.
These sessions will provide a non-partisan, accurate view of the history of education reform in Georgia, the current status and an overview of the myriad of education improvement issues candidates will face during the election process and later as elected policymakers.
For a complete schedule of presentations and registration information visit the "Calendar" section of this Web site. To access a copy of the registration form click here.

Internet Strategies for Education Markets: The Heller Report
Feb, 2002
The seven-member DeKalb County (Georgia) School Board completes its fourth and final technology training session this month, readying it to become the first local school board in the nation to work online. The DeKalb Board allocated $51,000 for 16 new Apple iBook computers, four days of technology training, and the opportunity to be a test case for the Georgia School Board Association's (GSBA; Lawrenceville, GA) innovative New Millenium Leadership Program (NMLP). NMLP was initiated in May 2000, and is a joint effort between GSBA and Apple Computer, Inc. (Cupertino, CA). Mark A. Willis, controller and technology director for GSBA, explains that Apple supplies nuts and bolts technology training for the project, while the Georgia folks come up with applications. But Apple has also entered into a partnership with GSBA to develop e-tools that could one day turn a profit for both Apple and GSBA. 'E-Boards': Wave of the Future?

Academic Information How Credit Transfers Between the Academy and High Schools
Advanced Academy of Georgia students are jointly enrolled in the Academy and their home high schools. Classes are taken exclusively at the college level while the high school diploma is issued by the high school. Academy students must meet graduation requirements established by the Georgia Board of Education and their own local Boards of Education. This means that Academy students must complete the same number of English, science, mathematics, social science, foreign language, physical education and health, and elective credits (Carnegie Units) as their counterparts in high school. Academy staff members maintain close contact with students' home high schools to ensure that requirements are met. University semester credit hours are converted to Carnegie Units in a 5 to 1 ratio. The Georgia Department of Education has published the following table to explain credit conversion:
Suggested State University of West Georgia Course/ High School Course Equivalents High School Course
(1 unit each) State University of West Georgia Course (unless noted, all courses below carry 3 semester hours)
