http://www.mece.ualberta.ca/tutorials/ansys/AT/Coupled/Coupled.html
This tutorial was completed using ANSYS 7.0 The purpose of this tutorial is to outline a simple coupled thermal/structural analysis. A steel link, with no internal stresses, is pinned between two solid structures at a reference temperature of C (273 K). One of the solid structures is heated to a temperature of 75 C (348 K). As heat is transferred from the solid structure into the link, the link will attemp to expand. However, since it is pinned this cannot occur and as such, stress is created in the link. A steady-state solution of the resulting stress will be found to simplify the analysis. Loads will not be applied to the link, only a temperature change of 75 degrees Celsius. The link is steel with a modulus of elasticity of 200 GPa, a thermal conductivity of 60.5 W/m*K and a thermal expansion coefficient of 12e-6 /K.
According to Chapter 2 of the ANSYS Coupled-Field Guide, "A sequentially coupled physics analysis is the combination of analyses from different engineering disciplines which interact to solve a global engineering problem. For convenience, ...the solutions and procedures associated with a particular engineering discipline [will be referred to as] a physics analysis. When the input of one physics analysis depends on the results from another analysis, the analyses are coupled." Thus, each different physics environment must be constructed seperately so they can be used to determine the coupled physics solution. However, it is important to note that a single set of nodes will exist for the entire model. By creating the geometry in the first physical environment, and using it with any following coupled environments, the geometry is kept constant. For our case, we will create the geometry in the Thermal Environment, where the thermal effects will be applied.

Image Processing and Analysis
Introduction

Image Processing and Analysis can be defined as the "act of examining images for the purpose of identifying objects and judging their significance" Image analyst study the remotely sensed data and attempt through logical process in detecting, identifying, classifying, measuring and evaluating the significance of physical and cultural objects, their patterns and spatial relationship.
Digital Data
In a most generalized way, a digital image is an array of numbers depicting spatial distribution of a certain field parameters (such as reflectivity of EM radiation, emissivity, temperature or some geophysical or topographical elevation. Digital image consists of discrete picture elements called pixels. Associated with each pixel is a number represented as DN (Digital Number), that depicts the average radiance of relatively small area within a scene. The range of DN values being normally to 255. The size of this area effects the reproduction of details within the scene. As the pixel size is reduced more scene detail is preserved in digital representation.
Remote sensing images are recorded in digital forms and then processed by the computers to produce images for interpretation purposes. Images are available in two forms - photographic film form and digital form. Variations in the scene characteristics are represented as variations in brightness on photographic films. A particular part of scene reflecting more energy will appear bright while a different part of the same scene that reflecting less energy will appear black. Digital image consists of discrete picture elements called pixels. Associated with each pixel is a number represented as DN (Digital Number), that depicts the average radiance of relatively small area within a scene. The size of this area effects the reproduction of details within the scene. As the pixel size is reduced more scene detail is preserved in digital representation.

Tutorials will start at the novice level, aimed at users who are new to Geant4, and will then proceed to advanced lectures for experienced users. Refer to the workshop schedule for detailed dates and times. Please be sure to register for the tutorials so that we can arrange for sufficient seating and study materials. Unregistered attendees may participate in the tutorials only as space permits. SLAC will provide only a VERY SMALL number of dedicated computers for the tutorials. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptop machines (laptops are preferable in any case since the user will then go home with Geant4 software already installed). Power and DHCP connections (wireless and wired) will be readily available. An installation CD will be provided with the latest versions of all required physics software including Geant4, CLHEP, and some GUI/Visualization/Analysis tools. But users are expected to arrive with an appropriate C++ compiler on their laptop as follows:

Solving Applied ("Word") Problems
When you have to solve applied problems or " word problems " the following stepwise procedure will be very helpful:
  • Read the problem carefully - as many times as you need to understand the information and the question.
  • Introduce a letter to denote an unknown quantity. Usually, this quantity is what you have to evaluate.
  • Write a formula or equation that connects the quantities appearing in the given information.
  • Draw a figure if possible.
  • Set up a table or a list of values of the quantities given in the problem.
  • Set up an equation, using the table or list of values.
  • Solve the equation.
  • Check that your solution is consistent with the given information. CLICK HERE for an example of solution of an applied problem using this procedure.

    Introduction
Welcome to the first Lighthouse 3D tutorial dedicated to Shockwave 3D. In here geometry primitives will be explored as well as some important concepts such as models and resources. If you're not familiar with macromedia's Director, and its programming language Lingo, then you should check out one of the many sites dedicated to it. There are plenty, and the best place to start is the Macromedia Web Site In here you'll be shown how to add geometry primitives to your world, namely boxes, spheres, cylinders and planes. This is a basic tutorial but it involves some important concepts regarding the structure of a 3D cast member. In order to add geometry to your world first you must create what is known as a Model Resource . However this is not enough. Creating a Model Resource only provides a description of what you want to display. To actually get something on screen you need to create a model based on the model resource If you're a Lingo programmer you may think about the relation between a model resource and a model as the relation between a cast member and a sprite. Another way to look at it is as if the

    Tutorial Outline
Geometric elements play an important role when analyzing images of man made scenes, especially within matching, reconstruction and grouping. Due to the uncertainty of geometric elements representing uncertainty, testing spatial relations and estimating parameters of uncertain elements play are essential tools. The half day tutorial covers the main aspects handling uncertain geometric elements, their relations, their construction and their optimal estimation in two- and three dimensions.
Using algebraic projective geometry, as promoted in the last decade in the computer vision area, on one hand simplifies spatial reasoning, on the other hand has to cope with the inherent homogeneity of the representation leading to singular covariance matrices. This makes the direct use of classical methods fail and requires adequate modifications, which are topic of the tutorial:
