American Association for the History of Medicine
The American Association for the History of Medicine was founded in 1925 focussing on the study of the health professions, public health, disease and other related fields. The Web site provides details of the Association's membership, contact details, details on how to join, and information about forthcoming meetings. There is also information about the Association's publications, including its official journal: Bulletin of the History of Medicine , 'Research in Progress', and the AAHM Newsletter which is published three times per year. The full text of Bulletin of the History of Medicine is available from Spring 1996, Vol. 70.1. Full text of the AAHM Newsletter is available from October 2000, with the most recent issues available in PDF format. To view the PDF files you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. United States Societies Public Health Electronic Journals [Publication Type] ... American Association for the History of Nursing The Web site of the American Association for the History of Nursing, founded in 1978 and open to anyone with an interest in the history of nursing. The Association aims to promote the study of the history of nursing and encourage the collection and preservation of materials relating to the history of nursing. The site contains general information about the Association, including membership information. There is information about the Association's annual conference held in the autumn of each year, a nursing history calendar for the current year and a "Gravesites series" of photographs of the graves of prominent American nurses. There is also a "student primer" for the history of nursing, and history of nursing bibliographies.

Transforming the Human Sciences. A blog on the transformation of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. A personal journal, a journey, and a blog on the way. Main

Notes from Geography/Geology
1. Is the council looking to restructure the way SRGs are applied?
2. Will there be extra money for these new programs and structures. It’s not clear to me how it will play out.
3. The limitation of the SRG is that it is an all or nothing thing versus other programs where some money is available to chug away at a project or where there are operating grants or different funding programs to cover different needs.
4. Will the transformation result in the building of a larger infrastructure in Ottawa? Is it a transformation that will increase the administrative infrastructure and drain money from the (granting) system to create a cadre of administrators?
5. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
6. Other councils (CIHR, NSERC) are expanding the scope of the research (e.g. social dimensions of health) they are funding. If SSHRC doesn’t do something it’ll be hijacked by others with more money.
7. How are the SSHRC panels constructed? I have found it easier to go to the US for funding. There is a persistence of certain ideologies (among panels) that has existed for many years. (Is there a propogation effect when panel turns over?)

The Geology of KentuckyA text to accompany the Geologic Map of Kentucky , by Robert C. McDowell : at the U.S. Geological Survey web site. This is the full-text version of the original out-of-print publication that summarized the geologic quadrangle mapping program. This program was a joint U.S. Geological Survey-Kentucky Geological Survey project that took approximately 20 years and hundreds of geologists to complete. As a result, Kentucky was the first state to be completely geological mapped at a detailed scale.
