You are the person to visit this page since October 6, 1997. This inventory was prepared by Mark Jensen in February 1997. The Geology Index is a series of 3" x 5" cards that hold entries indexing books and papers on geology topics. The date of its preparation was unrecorded, but the works indexed were published between ca. 1890 and ca. 1937, with the bulk of them published in the 1920s and 1930s. The first card in box 3 gives "Directions to Using Index." Cards in boxes 1 and 2 are numbered; these numbers are used as cross-referencing tools in boxes 3-6. Cards in box 1 list title and publication information for individual textbooks and monographs; United States Geological Service bulletins, circulars, professional papers; and other documents. Cards in box 2 list authors and the titles of their papers or books. Cards in boxes 3-5 list topics that are cross-referenced to individual authors and books in boxes 1 and 2. Box 6 holds cards that index stratigraphy topics and are also cross-referenced. Size: 1 lin. ft.

From its very beginning to the present, the Earth has undergone considerable physical, chemical and biologic change. This history can be read using various means from rocks and fossils accessible to us all. To study the history of the Earth is important not only because it helps us understand what processes and events have helped shape our planet's present physical and biologic make-up, but it can also help predict future events that may consequently affect humankind. This course is an introduction to the major events which had a profound impact on the changing physical and biologic landscape throughout Earth's history. The course will stress both theory and facts concerning the history of Earth and life, and more importantly, how we know it. The course is designed to give the student a broad perspective and appreciation of Earth's history and serve as a stepping-stone to more advanced courses in Earth Science.

These digital data sets are derived from published 1:2,500,000 geologic and thematic maps of Alaska. Details of the processing are documented in the metadata files which accompany each coverage. At this time only polygon coverages (geologic areas, etc.) are available or planned. If you would like to see line coverages (e.g. faults), point coverages (sample locations) or amls with explanatory text, etc (in order to be able to re-print the paper maps) please send comments to the address below. All data sets are presented as compressed tar files of Arc/Info V7.x coverages or Arc/Info Export files. Please see Download Help for additional help in downloading these data sets.
