    The following courses, which attract CATS points, count towards a Certificate in General Studies. Republic, Monarchy and Revolution: Britain, 1649-89 At a time of constitutional innovation, it is instructive to look at the turbulent middle and later years of the seventeenth century. In 1649, Britain became a republic. This course will explore the reasons why and the implications for today's monarchy.     Computers in Genealogy was founded by the Society of Genealogists in September 1982, with David Hawgood as its founder editor, to provide a forum for discussion of all aspects of the use of computers in genealogy. It is published quarterly, in March, June, September and December. CiG is intended for all those who use computers for genealogy, and the aim of the magazine is to help genealogists in the use of computers by:
    • Providing a forum for:
      • the exchange of information and experience in the use of computers for genealogy
      • discussion of issues relating to the collection, storage and sharing of genealogical data
      • discussion of issues in the design and programming of software for genealogy
    • Reporting on:
      • advances in the application of computers to genealogy

Meet Your County Coordinator White County History John White (1751-1846) was a Revolutionary War soldier, fifer, surveyor, and frontiersman. In 1789, John left Amelia County, VA, and moved his family to the Cumberland Mountains in what is now Tennessee. John had to fight the Cherokee Indians for the right to live on the land, for the Cherokee were not confined to the Cumberland Plateau until the 2nd Treaty of Holston in 1791. By 1800, dozens of new settlers had come to the "Mountain District", including more kin of John White.
