Bulkley Valley
Genealogical Society
The Bulkley Valley Genealogical Society became a charter society under the B. C. Societies Act in January of 1996. We started with 7 people and have grown to a membership of 22 for 1998. We are committed to supporting each other in our research for our own family trees plus informing others in how to search for their roots. Our meetings are held at Smithers Secondary School in Room 4 at 7:30 PM on the last Tuesday of the month. We take the summer months of July and August off plus December as it would occur during the Holiday Season. Since our beginning we have had at least one seminar per year and sometimes two. These have been well attended and have given all a lot of information on the many avenues of researching. Our meetings are as follows, one speaker on a subject for beginners in genealogy and then a speaker on a more advanced stage of researching for others who are along the way. Every second meeting we have only the first speaker for beginners and then an open forum for a Trouble Shooting Session to help each other with the problems that we have encountered researching. Someone usually has an idea how to solve a problem so you can continue your research. Our members are our best resource. Membership at the moment is $15.00 per year and includes 4 newsletters plus use of our Reading Room in the Central Parks Building. Our society has put together a Directory of the Smithers Cemetery which anyone can purchase for $15.00 plus handling charges. We also have a Surname Index in which our members have listed all of the names they are researching plus the places in which they are researching. These are available to members for $2.00 each. If you would like further information of our society please contact:
