Text Only Version Home About Cheshire It can be difficult to find lost friends and family. The Internet has made the world a smaller place and can make finding people easier. There are various sources to try: www.friendsreunited.co.uk - is a web site that lists people who register under the schools and colleges they attended www.oldschooltie.ltd.uk and www.alumni.net www.school-friends.co.uk or www.who-remembers-me.com are similar web sites, some charge for registration. www.192.com - lists details of people from the phone books and other public sources in the UK. Directory enquiries may be a good place to start if you have a name and possible location www.bt.com or if you're looking for world wide telephone directories try www.infobel.com/teldir A web site offering a 'post and read' message facility can be found at www.missing-you.net Electoral registers may also help if you have a name and possible location. In Cheshire these are held and maintained by district councils and can be seen in Council offices and local libraries, they are not available online. The Cheshire Record Office holds historic electoral registers for Cheshire.

Brief Version of Sharing Family History on the Internet
S HARING is the operative word here. In genealogy we give and we receive. The Internet makes sharing easier than ever. I have never received such fast response as I have using the Internet. Remember, however, the Internet postings contain mostly secondary sources and in some cases will contain errors. For verification of any posting, seek primary sources! THIS presentation is a sampling or overview of some family history sites which I like. NOTE: These are general Web sites. To get to specific sites such as geographical locations, surnames, etc. go to a site like Cyndi's List and click on the state or country you are interested in, or go to the surname section in this document. Many of the sites will lead you to specific sites.
Go here for an annotated version of this document. For family history sites which I have added since January 1, 1999, go to

So what's the story concerning Philadelphia genealogy research?
Born in Philadelphia and having spent over 20 years doing both my own family tree and
professional research, I have in depth knowledge of all the ins and outs of Philadelphia research. I have attempted on this page to present a history of Philadelphia and its neighborhoods and to provide those researching their Philadelphia ancestors with names, addresses and phone numbers to most sources of records for research in this city. There is a great wealth of genealogical information to be discovered in Philadelphia. Unlike many other cities and towns across the United States, Philadelphia started keeping records fairly early. Birth, death and marriage records are available from 1860 on, with well kept church records, wills and deeds supplying records from earlier dates.
The History of Philadelphia and Its' Neighborhoods
This page contains valuable information for the genealogist who is interested in learning about the neighborhoods their ancestors lived in. It details the birth, industries and history of each early Philadelphia neighborhood, borough, and township which all later became part of the City of Philadelphia proper.
Watson's Annals of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania:
A Collection of Memoirs, Anecdotes, and Incidents of the City and Its' Inhabitants and of the Earliest Settlements of the Inland Part of Pennsylvania from the Days of the Founders. Intended to Preserve the Recollections of Olden Time, and to Exhibit Society in its Changes of Manners and Customs, and the City and Country in their Local Changes and Improvements. by John F. This Rev J. M. Trunk text was published originally in 1912 as Part 8, History of Slovene Communities , contains significant genealogical information about Slovenian immigrants, the places they lived, the organizations they formed, and the churches they attended.
Translators for the Slovenian Genealogy Society have been working to translate many texts published early in the 1900s that contain significant genealogical information. Our translators are not professional linguists, and they do not complete a translation with rigorous academic oversight. The goal of our translation projects is to make information available to the American descendants of Slovenian immigrants. If you believe we have made serious errors in translation, please contact us and volunteer your time to us in order to make the corrections. We strive to do good work; we are always willing to correct errors to the extent we can; and we ask others to join us in this worthwhile endeavor.
The Slovenian Genealogy Society collects church histories. Readers with information on Slovenes in the communities listed, the churches mentioned, or other information on Slovenes, can contact the Society at 52 Old Farm Road, Camp Hill, Pa 17011. The society accepts donations of Slovene books, texts, and publications.
