I have a file of obituaries clipped throughout the years that are not yet scanned. Looking at tombstones requires extensive traveling. I photographed quite a few cemeteries from Virginia (including the Arlington National Cemetery) to California, before I discovered the digital camera. I still have stacks of photos to scan for the Tarver-Gen Web site, but am progressing. My mother, Adina Tarver Cirilo, has been trememendous assistance transcribing the incriptions for these surveys. You'll see her in an occasional photograph peering over a gravestone. That's her in the photgraph above, in Old Catahoula Church Cemetery - the oldest cemetery in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana. Visit her Web page to read more about her family I also have a number of cemetery surveys that include ALL of the gravestones at the time of the survey, some without photos. As time permits, these too will go online. Many thanks to my mother (Adina Tarver Cirilo), Bessie Ferrell, and Carroll Tarver for their gifts of transcriptions.

Records
  • Growing collection
  • Manuscripts ~ The richest sources on our ancestor's lives are oftn the rarest: private letters, diaries or journals, memoirs, reminiscences, and manuscripts. Such records reveal people's thoughts and feelings in a way other records cannot. They may record the birth and death of a child the census has missed, or provide details lacking in public records. Someone once said, "it is only the really private material that can put flesh on the bones of history."

Welcome To My Genealogy Site!
OWEN(s), FLACK, GOODSON, THOMAS, GRANTLAND, LYLE(s), BREEDING, WINTON, CLECKLER
Hello, everyone! *smiles Welcome to my contribution to the preservation of the proof of existence of my family and allied families of same. I was blessed to have met six of my eight great grandparents, all of my grandparents and both of my parents in my lifetime; and I DO feel VERY blessed by this. I am blessed also to still have my two grandmothers. Someday, I, too, will pass on to be reunited with my loved ones who have gone before me. But, at this point in time, I am still alive and missing them tremendously. I want the world to know and to remember my family, and to know that we were all here living, loving and sharing in life.
I am not a trained genealogist. So, the information here is intended as a "guideline" for those also researching in genealogy.
Thank you for visiting. And may God continue to Bless us all!

The transcription is available at the Medford Public Library and on microfiche at the LDS Family History Library - Fiche # 6101847.

The last burial took place in 1881. There are apparantly over 600 people buried here, however there are only 485 markers. There are believed to be over 50 slave buried in unmarked graves.

    http://mail.wyoming.com/~msaBan/cemeteries.htm
CEMETERIES, FUNERAL HOMES, AND OBITUARIES UNDER CONSTRUCTION! Two of the best resources available to us about our ancestors are obituaries from newspapers and cemetery records. Keep in mind that they are not 100% accurate as the information comes from someone in the family at a time of grief. However, it is important to look up these valuable resources. Most State Historical Societies and/or State Genealogy Societies have microfilmed the state's newspapers in their entirety. And many have indexed the vital records from those newspapers - births, deaths, marriages, divorces etc. Your local public library will be able to tell you if they are on the interlibrary loan system. If so, they can access the index of microfilms and tell you what are available through the local library at a reasonable fee. The LDS Church has in their massive genealogy library thousands upon thousands of microfilms available for rental through your local LDS Family History Center. Their fees are reasonable. Stop by your local center and get to know their resources. These different organizations have also microfilmed many, many cemetery records. One thing to remember is that when you locate a publication of the people buried in "ABC Cemetery" in "Anywhere, USA", more than likely it is a list of the graves with monuments. Many organizations have not been able to get into the actual cemetery records for one reason or another. You should always attempt to contact the current holder of the cemetery records and obtain a copy of the records that were completed at the time of burial for that person. At the very least you should find out who the informant was for the information.
