1. Gender Issues Research Center
Seeks to provide a nonpartisan source for book reviews, articles, news links, polls, and statistics on gender issues.
Gender Issues Research Center Today, it is difficult to make decisions about gender issues when the special interest groups of the left and right are always attacking each other, researchers produce statistics that conflict with previous studies, and politicians take certain positions to get elected. The goal of Gender Issues Research Center is to provide resources without the conflict and frustration brought by special interest groups and politicians. Therefore, the material on this web site is compiled from non-partisan departments of the U.S. government and research organizations. 3. For Schools: Tackling The Issues, Gender
An introduction to Gender as a development issue of interest to students and teachers. wealth of data and development information on gender issues. The site describes how the Bank Tackling the Issues. gender issues are closely linked to other development issues
Gender equality is not only a matter of social justice, it is also a matter of good economics. Failing to "invest" in women - for example, letting girls go to school, ensuring legal and property rights for women, providing access to health care and nutrition for mothers and their families - threatens the well-being of the society as a whole. Eliminating gender inequalities, however, produces significant gain in terms of the quality of life of the women themselves, economic productivity, and poverty reduction. While more and more women are participating more fully in social and economic development, much remains to be done. The World Bank's policy is to integrate gender concerns into all of its policies and programs. Resources on Girls' Education

In recent years, the information communication technology (ICT) sector has become one of the fastest growing areas of the world economy.
Women still face many barriers to participating fully and effectively in a knowledge-based economy, a key component of economic development.
Creating telecommunications policies and human resources development programmes targeted at women can help alleviate poverty of women and their families. Additionally, by leveraging the skills of women, developing countries can significantly add to the pool of talent that will be needed in the new information society. Gender Information

Gender Issues
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves "who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you... As we let our light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others. Marianne Williamson, as quoted by Nelson Mandella in a 1994 Inaugural Address. ArtLex defines art terms alphabeticaly from levels to those of tremendous consequence, gender issues have always carried great potential for resources concerning art relating to gender issues, and we welcome your suggestions
This site is made possible by its sponsors. Please visit them! g ender issues - The word "gender" refers to sexual identity. Nearly all of us are either male or female a simple place to start. It gets more complicated when we realize that there are many ways to interpret what maleness and femaleness can mean to each of us. What it means to be, perceive, and interact with other people depends, at least in part, on how each of us understands one another's maleness or femaleness. Those meanings are invariably deeply important in every person's life socially (economically, educationally, politically, sexually, etc.), and of course artistically. Because the implications can range from those at superficial levels to those of tremendous consequence, gender issues have always carried great potential for controversy. Xenophobia has been a virulent evil across many cultures, across time and around the world. Its subcategories include racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious intolerance. Gender issues might pose or address such questions as:
  • What constitutes obscenity and pornography ? Where do they come from? What are their results? Are some legitimate and some not? What place do they have in art?
  • Feminism and feminist art might be understood as dealing with a certain set of gender issues.

An Educator's Guide to Gender Bias Issues
gender bias / accessibility funding hearing disability visual disability ... other disabilities Introduction: Technologies should be equally accessible to male and female students. Yet, as girls enter adolescence, large numbers of them tend to lose interest in science, math, and computer science. Girls are narrowing the gender gap in science and math, but not in technology (Closing the Gender Gap: Gender Gaps Fact Sheet, 1997). Overall girls' test scores and course enrollments have risen in these areas, with the exception of computer science. In order to attempt to address this issue, the cause of the discrepancies between males and females in computer use must be established. Several issues need to be addressed:
    • What is gender bias? What evidence is there that a technology gender gap and gender bias exist? Why are girls in their adolescent years losing interest in computers? What are the differences and similarities between how males and females perceive and use technology? What technologies are out there? For whom are they intended?

Issues in Brief Promoting Gender Equality Women can and must play a powerful role in sustainable development and poverty eradication. When women are educated and healthy, their families, communities and nations benefit. Yet gender-based discrimination and violence pervade almost every aspect of life, undermining women's opportunities and denying them the ability to fully exercise their basic human rights. For more than 30 years, UNFPA has been in the forefront of bringing gender issues to wider attention, promoting legal and policy reforms and gender-sensitive data collection, and supporting projects that empower women economically. The Fund aims to improve the status of women at every stage of their lives. Latest News
