Geography Of The Gambia River Gambia Physical Capital City LandMarks Situated in West Africa, The Gambia is bounded to the West by the Atlantic Ocean and on all other sides by Senegal. It is a small country with a total land area of approximately 10,403 sq. km. Its most dominating feature is the RIVER GAMBIA, which flows the entire length of the country for 487 km and has numerous creeks, known locally as bolongs. Most of the land is low plateau, broken only by a few flat-topped hills. The Gambia is divided into five divisions, below are the divisions and their administrative town s Division Area in Sq. Km. In the west, lower and smaller sand hills alternate with depressions filled in with sand so that a flat plain is formed.
