Frugal Living Tips
Have you ever wondered what vinegar, baking soda or both are good for? Here are a few ideas to make your life a little easier and save money at the same time.
  • Vinegar used as a hair rinse neutralizes the alkali left by shampoo and other hair products. Cheaper and better for your hair than clarifying shampoo. Can be used as a fabric softener and static cling reducer (use as you would liquid fabric softener. Great for removing stains such as grass, coffee, tea, berries etc. Remedy for age spots (women will like this one). Mix equal parts onion juice and vinegar and use daily on age spots. White vinegar will kill weeds and grass. Wash your windshield with vinegar in the winter to keep ice and frost away. Relieves the pain and reduces varicose veins. Gargle with 1 tbs vinegar to each 8 ounce glass of water for a sore throat every couple of hours and swallow. Use as an antiseptic for burns, cuts, abrasions, to relieve itching from poison ivy and mosquito bites.

Welcome to the Frugal Corner, home of the newsgroup misc.consumers.frugal-living ! Check out the results of the long list of updates I have made in April 2003. See the end of this page for the history of misc.consumers.frugal-living and the Frugal Corner website. The aim of this site is to provide and continually expand the informational resources needed to be successful at pursuing frugality and a simpler way of life. Because everyone has different priorities, the key is to decrease your spending of money and consumption of products in ways that allow you to still be happy and not feel deprived. Buy closer to what your real needs are. Buy used if appropriate. It is also important to consider the environmental, safety of humans and animals, waste generation, and social impacts of your decisions, including the actions of the companies who make the products you buy, instead of focusing only on getting products and services at the lowest possible price. Resources listed include various aspects of frugality and simplicity that consider things besides just money, including time, drains on your mental, physical, and spiritual energy, general quality of life, and the environment. The more information you have, the more you can save in all areas of your life. Newsgroups take you to web-based Usenet groups at groups.google.com

    ASK MISS FRUGAL
I'm glad you dropped in! Let me tell you a little about myself. For 4 years my son and I lived near Washington, D.C. on one income. In fact, we bought and lived in our own home on an income of less than $20,000 per year while saving 30 percent and giving 10 percent to charity. I developed my frugal habits and skills the hard way, by climbing out of debts amassed by my ex-husband, a compulsive spender. Today, I am happily remarried and teach community education classes, write a Frugal Advice Column , and run several businesses, public speaking, and freelance writing. My personal story was featured in the May 1996 issue Women's Day Article "America Cuts Back" By Annie Jones
    Excerpt from Solo Parenting
    by Diane Chambers.
I also have been featured on the Spectrum Sunday Morning Radio Show on 105.9 Washington D.C.
