Mill Valley Masonic Lodge
Mill Valley Lodge No. 356 has a unique connection with the most famous ship to have sailed in the Revenue Cutter Service, the forerunner of the modern Coast Guard, the Revenue Cutter Bear.
USS Bear The sturdy Bear was hurriedly sailed to New York where she was outfitted for an arctic rescue mission and commissioned in the US Navy. The USS Bear and another sealer purchased for the mission (USS Thetis) had become the last hope for the ill-fated Greely Expedition, which was trapped at Lady Franklin Bay in Northern Greenland. The expedition, under the command of Lieutenant A. W. Greely, had set up a camp to study the winter conditions of the north in 1881. When relief ships failed to break through the ice to reach them in 1882 and 1883, the survivors gambled that a rescue ship would be coming, broke camp, and started trekking south. From August to October 1883 they moved south, then set up camp for the winter. By springtime the food had run out; they were desperate. From 1886 until 1926, the USRCS Bear was stationed at San Francisco. The United States had only recently purchased Alaska, and while most of the government settled into a pattern of ignoring the territory, the Revenue Service took it upon itself to establish a presence there in the interest of fundamental law and order. At that time there were only one lighthouse and no buoys or beacons for thirty-five thousand miles of jagged, treacherous coast-line.

The Question of Freemasonry
by Harmon R. Taylor
INTRODUCTION
The question of the Christian stand regarding Freemasonry seems to confront our ministry at every turn lately. I have had to come to grips with the sad fact that the esoteric doctrines of Freemasonry separate it, just as unequivocally as do those of Mormonism, from Christian theology. This holds true for every branch of Masonry from the Shriners to the Blue Lodge, the Eastern Star, Demolay, Job's Daughters and the Rainbow Girls! It holds true for the Scottish rite or York rite!

Hooved Angels?
It (Satan) is that Angel who was proud enough to believe himself God; brave enough to buy his independence at the price of eternal suffering and torture; beautiful enough to have adored himself in full divine light; strong enough to still reign in darkness amidst agony, and to have made himself a throne out of this inextinguishable pyre.
Brother Eliphas Levi
Historie de la Magie
Pages 16-17 One of the most hidden secrets involves the so-called fall of Angels. Satan and his rebellious host will thus prove to have become the direct Saviours and Creators of divine man. Thus Satan, once he ceases to be viewed in the superstitious spirit of the church, grows into the grandiose image. It is Satan who is the God of our planet and the only God. Satan (or Lucifer) represents the Centrifugal Energy of the Universe, this ever-living symbol of self-sacrifice for the intellectual independence of humanity. Sister H.P. Blavatsky

Origins and development
During the Middle Ages church builders organised themselves into various guilds in accordance with their particular trades. With the dawn of modern history the number of men involved in the building of castles, monasteries and cathedrals began to fall. In place of these operative builders' guilds new associations founded by individuals outside the building trade began to appear. Originating in the British Isles, these so-called speculative guilds were to become known as Freemasons. They met in their own buildings which were termed `lodges´. A number of English Freemasonry lodges came together to establish a central organisation in 1717, namely the Grand Lodge in London. At the same time they agreed upon a common set of principles. This is now viewed as constituting the birth of the modern Freemasonry movement. Already in the earlier operative guilds attention was paid not only to the professional skills of members but also to their spiritual development. Old traditions were preserved within the new Freemasons' lodges through the use of phrases relating to building terminology. However, this use of language came to symbolise spiritual ideas. Having thus emerged from origins dating from the Middle Ages, Freemasonry was in the 18th Century carried around the world by soldiers, merchants, seafarers and other free men.

Freemasonry, Conspiracy Within, Initiation and the Brotherhood
Every Masonic Lodge is a temple of religion; and its teachings are instructions of religion. - Albert Pike, 33rd degree T he majority of Masons today don't have a clue as to the true meaning of their rituals and symbols. And they certainly cannot be called bad people. Misled, yes, and most really are the good natured philanthropists helping their community that we see outwardly. You see it is not required of initiates to ascend any higher than that of the third degree Master Mason. They know there are another 30 degrees if one wished to continue, but the initiation process is a tedious and drawn out affair (it might take a year to reach the third degree), which the participants, for the most part, are happy it's over with. For them it is good that they not continue. And that's just the way higher initiates, or adepts, like it. General Albert Pike wrote those words in a work called: Morals and Dogma in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite

Yet masons need more facts to understand these subject. The purpose of this article is to provide some of these facts about the recognition of French grand lodges by United States grand lodges in the 1900s, and to suggest questions for further thought and research.

54. How Freemasonry Corrupts Christianity
Describes how Masonry is blasphemous and leads Christians away from Jesus Christ.
http://home.ptd.net/~magog/theology.htm
How Freemasonry Corrupts Christianity
Freemasonry turns men away from Jesus Christ in at least 5 different ways:
  • Freemasonry purposely deletes the name of Jesus Christ from its prayers and scripture quotations.
  • Freemasonry requires Christian members to disobey Jesus Christ by officially forbidding all discussions of Christ from Lodge activities.
  • Freemasonry denies the deity of Jesus Christ(note: niether accepting nor denying is a "lukewarm" approach to the subject. This is UTTERLY REJECTED BY CHRIST in Revelation 3:15-16)
  • Freemasonry intentionally downplays the unique role of Jesus Christ as our Savior by teaching that the Christian proclamation of divine redemption is simply the revival of earlier pagan stories.
Freemasonry does all of these in their Order yet in the "Monitor of the Lodge: Monitorial Instructions in the Three Degrees of Symbolic Masonry"(Grand Lodge of Texas, 1982), p.10 says: "Freemasonry is far removed from all that is...ungodly."
Henry C. Clausen, "Clausen's Commentaries on Morals and Dogma"(The Supreme Council, 33rd Degree, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction of the U.S.A., 1976), p.159 says: "We do not say to Christians that Christ was a mere man, whose life story is only a revival of similar older[pagan] stories. To do any of these things would be irreverent. We utter no such words."

    58. "Fundamentals Of Freemasonry" By Norman Williams Crabbe
An essay by Norman Williams Crabbe that describes the basic structure of freemasonry and its esoteric characteristics.
    http://www.theosophy-nw.org/theosnw/world/modeur/ph-crabb.htm
    Fundamentals of Freemasonry
By Norman Williams Crabbe, MPS Freemasonry uses allegorical symbols to teach a philosophy concerning the nature of the Creator, the origins of the universe, and humanity's universal destiny. The religious doctrines in which most people are raised are designed to satisfy the basic needs of the general population. To get a truer understanding of the nature of Deity requires a long-term commitment of study. The Freemasonic initiate is put on the path of this study by being initiated into the fraternity of Masonry, a Westernized religious Mystery school. If the initiate studies the ritual, he will receive, proportionate to his ability to understand, deep mystic revelations regarding the nature of the universe and our mystic journey through it. Freemasonry keeps alive this knowledge from generation to generation until such time as it is understood and accepted by all beings. Though dealing exclusively with religious themes, Freemasonry is not a religion: no one dogma is professed as being particularly Masonic. Nor is the Masonic Lodge a place of worship; it would be better considered a classroom. Freemasonry "teaches" an occult philosophy to lead the initiate towards the essence of religious thought. All that is required of the initiate is an expressed belief in higher intelligence (God); therefore, no atheist can become a Mason. Religions in and of themselves are made by mankind to explain Deity. Freemasons come in all colors and nationalities and may worship Jehovah, Jesus, Mohammed, or Krishna, to name a few.
