The Impact of Freemasonry
on Elizabethan Literature
The enthusiasm among Renaissance men for classical and Hebrew texts brought in its train a revival, and encouraged a sophisticated and creative apprehension, of numerous mystical, alchemical, hermeticist and occultist tendencies. But it was a revival that inevitably encountered resistance from powerful vested interests, especially in theological circles. Compelled to adopt strategies for survival, seekers after "higher truths" sought immunity from reprisal and persecution in the sub-culture of the occult "underground". Thus the secret society began to proliferate. Early in the 16th century Henry Cornelius Agrippa visited England and his friends among the Oxford Humanists - John Colet and Thomas More in particular. Some academics have deduced from his own words that he formed a society in England at this time ( circa I am led to believe that there still exist "Books of Shadows" (membership books) of witches' covens, for which the earliest entries date back to the 16th century.

esearch has been an important part of Freemasonry since the operative days of the craft. The Regius Poem or Manuscipt or Halliwell Manuscript written about A.D. 1390 is an example. There have been many Research Lodges chartered, especially during this century. There have been, however, few research societies organized throughout the long existence of Freemasonry. Only one has been able to stand the test of time. This one is The Philalethes Society, an international association of Freemasons who seek light and those who have light to impart. It has been shedding light and truth since 1928. From the Preface of Seekers of Truth
by Allen E. Roberts ( see Web Site Dedication
The name of the Society is pronounced "fill a (as in a-bate) lay thees" with the accent on the third syllable lay. It is derived from two Greek words, philos and alethes. It means lover of truth.

What is Freemasonry? The definition in the English Lectures is most often quoted, which says that "Freemasonry is a peculiar system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols.'' But a more comprehensive and exact definition is, that it is a science which is engaged in the search after Divine Truth, and which employs symbolism as its method of instruction. Albert G. Mackey, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry A more modern definition is - "Freemasonry is a science dedicated to enlightening the mind through reason, and ennobling the spirit through morality." NEW: Contemplative Masonry (Highly Recommended!) NEW: Discussion Group at TheLodgeRoom.com TracingBoard.com has been designed to help you learn about the world's oldest fraternal order: Freemasonry. Here you will find information about all of the various Masonic organizations, their histories and philosophies. I have went to great lengths to gather a wide variety of information concerning Freemasonry and placed it in a common location that is easy to navigate and use. I have tried to provide accurate information and mostly utilized texts printed prior to the 20th century. I purposefully chose to use these texts because I believe they represent a more accurate picture of what Freemasonry was and ultimately still is. Modern Freemasonry is a product of the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason, its ideology is firmly rooted in what Ayn Rand defined as

Aleister Crowley and Freemasonry Aleister Crowley , a brilliant student of symbolism and ritual, had at least four major contacts with Freemasonry as a complete body. The Confessions of Aleister Crowley. Finally, at around the 1910 period, came Crowley's episode with John Yarker . Yarker was initiated on October 25, 1854 in Liberty Lodge No. 189, was a frequent writer on masonic matters, was a member of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076 (the premier lodge of masonic research), and had been involved, in 1871, with the setting up of a Grand Council in Manchester of the Ancient and Primitive Rite , a concatenation of the Ancient and Accepted, and the Rites of Memphis and Mizraim, chartered from the United States of America by Harry J. Seymour (these Egyptian rites were considered irregular by the Grand Orient of France, the first being labeled "dead" by Thevenot, the Grand Secretary of the Grand Orient of France, in a letter to the United Grand Lodge of England in 1872 and the latter being dissolved in 1817). This Grand Council was not recognised by the Supreme Council in Duke Street. St. James, who had expelled Yarker, established the Antient and Primitive Rite in Great Britain. After Yarker's death (which is reported in the Oriflamme

34. Freemasonry: The Witchcraft Connection
freemasonry The Witchcraft Connection. With that point in mind, let us look first at the ritual similarities between contemporary Wicca and freemasonry
http://www.saintsalive.com/freemasonry/fmwitchcraft.htm
Freemasonry: The Witchcraft Connection by William J. Schnoebelen William Schnoebelen was deeply involved in both Witchcraft as a Wiccan high priest and the Masonic order for many years. He was a Mason for nine years and a Witch for sixteen years. In the Lodge, he held offices of Junior Warden in the Blue Lodge, Prelate in the Commandery of the York Rite, Master of the Veil in the Royal Arch degree, and Associate Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star. Additionally, he was a 32° Mason and a Shriner. He is now a Born Again Christian and the author of 5 books, including Masonry: Beyond the Light. In understanding the spiritual difficulties of a Born Again Christian being a Mason, it is necessary to realize that there are highly occult elements woven into the very warp and woof of Freemasonry. Thus, the Lodge is not just "another religion" like the Muslims or the Buddhists—although that alone should be enough to keep Christians from involving themselves in it. The nature and character of the Lodge’s deepest theological underpinnings are rooted in Witchcraft and Paganism. Now that may be an astonishing assertion to some, especially to most Masons. However, it is very easily proven. Few people, within the Craft of Masonry or otherwise, perceive that just because a Bible lies open on the altar and Bible verses and characters play an important part in the ritual of the Lodge, that this does not prevent the Lodge from being of the nature of the occult or Witchcraft.

Tree of Life of the Kabbalah and Morality
Daniel Farhey
The esoteric Hebrew theosophy, commonly known as the "Kabbalah" ( Kahbahlah, 'Receipt,' 'Acceptance,' or 'Tradition'), is a very ancient legacy of Israel. The Kabbalah reached its peak at about the 12th and 13th centuries CE, influencing medieval thinkers even before the Renaissance (14th to 17th centuries CE). Indeed, in the 11th and 12th centuries CE, the greatest contribution to science and philosophy was made by the "Mekubbalim" ( Mehkoobahleem, 'Acceptees' or 'Kabbalists'), known in history books as outstanding inventors, developers, and philosophers. Kabbalah studies include the "Ets H'ayim" ( Ehts H'ahyeem, 'Tree of Life') and its "Sefirot" ( Sfeeroht, 'Countings' or 'Divine Emanations'). Ten Sefirot originate from the incomprehensible "EinSof" ( AinSohf, 'Endless' or 'Infinite')the Kabbalistic denomination of the One-and-only, Eternal, and Almighty G-d, creator, source, and very essence of all things. The 10 Sefirot represent: (1) The finite (limited) human understanding of the energy channels which G-d generated from His own infinite energy, to create and rule our finite and material universe; and, (2) the qualities that humans should strive to develop in order to approach G-d. The 10 Sefirot also reflect Moral Associations. Although there are some versions of these Moral Associations, in principle, they all reflect faith in G-d and morality. The following table outlines the order of the
