East Coast 4 Wheel Drive Association > Info Center > The History The History of EC4WDA Contact among eastern four wheelers began in 1965 when Pittsburgh's Triangle Jeepers held their first East Coast Four-Wheel-O-Rama in Wellsboro, PA. Other competitive and trailriding events followed and attracted many four wheelers. The occasional camping weekends became annual events and ultimately friendships developed between clubs, families, and individuals. Realizing the need to standardize running classes, rules and safety considerations, Triangle's club invitied Tri-County (Lisbon, OH) and Allegheny (Oil City, PA) four wheel drive clubs to send representatives to an inter-club meeting in February, 1969. The sixteen who attended the meeting formulated and approved the 1969 competition rules while discussing the need for an East Coast Four Wheel Drive Association (EC4WDA), set a date for the first meeting in State College, PA, inviting all known eastern clubs to send representatives. The East Coast Four Wheel Drive Association is America's second largest regional four wheel drive association.

2002 UFWDA CONVENTION
INTERNATIONAL SCOPE
August 8-10, 2002
The 2002 United Convention held in London Ontario was the first ever to be held outside the US, thanks to a tremendous combined effort of the associations in the mid-west and Canada to make this all happen without a hitch! The UFWDA is an association of Associations, with members as individuals, individual clubs, and association groups from all over the US and around the World! Though the convention is an annual time to 'take care of business', it has evolved into a great opportunity to be more than just meetings, but a great exchange of information and ideas to help move not only the organization, but the sport and recreation of four wheeling into the future.
The business activities involve discussion on topics of interest to the membership and following up on actions to further the overall goals;
UFWDA promotes legislation beneficial to vehicle recreation.
UFWDA helps to support community services around the world.
UFWDA provides education in responsible land use and safe vehicle operation.
UFWDA protects our natural resources through conservation practices.

    What is a zoning plan?
A zoning plan, like a town plan, specifies how a particular site can be used. Marine parks are divided into a number of zones each representing a different level of resource use and protection. This allows the separation of activities which may conflict with each other and protects particularly sensitive areas.
Planning a marine park - how zoning plans and boundaries are determined
The process to be followed is:
    • Place public notices seeking public comment on issues and proposed management.
    • Receive and consider public comments on the area.
    • Prepare a draft zoning plan and issue it for public comment.
    • Receive and consider public comments on draft zoning plan.

  • Four-Wheel Drive
group is dedicated Dear Editor: Southern Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) is a family- oriented non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of four-wheel drive recreation, responsible land usage, conservation, and education. Formed in 1987 the association covers the southeast encompassing the states of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee and consists of member families that belong to one or more of the 33 clubs within the association or are individual members. A recent article run by The Daily Times focused on problems in the Foothills Wildlife Management Area with ATV's illegally entering the area and causing damage to the land. Southern Four Wheel Drive Association is dedicated to upholding the rights of everyone to use public lands, but trespassing and other illegal and irresponsible actions described in the article cannot and should not be tolerated. It is also unfortunate that the actions of a few unorganized and uncaring individuals taint the reputation of motorized off highway recreation in general and help infringe on the privileges of everyone to have access to areas such as this. SFWDA applauds TWRA's efforts to step up enforcement in the area and agree that the maximum $50 fine structure is grossly inadequate. As an association SFWDA places strong emphasis on the guidance and education of four-wheel drive vehicle operators to help ensure safe and courteous driving and proper vehicle use off-highway. Through the Four-Wheel Drive Awareness education program novice and experienced 4x4 owners are taught about general off-highway principles, techniques, and courtesies related to four-wheeling and more specific skills related to driving off-highway, elementary vehicle mechanics, recovery techniques, four-wheel drive safety, and recommended equipment to stock in their vehicles when on a trail ride.

Discover Queensland! From the bush to the beach, Queensland's national parks, state forests, marine parks and historic sites are great places to visit. But remember ... these special parts of Queensland's heritage must be protected. Recreational activities that cause no damage to the natural environment and to cultural sites are best. You can camp in almost 100 national parks and other protected areas around Queensland. Many are islands with fringing reefs suitable for a range of activities from snorkelling to reef walking. Go bushwalking. Choose a short walk or tackle an overnight hike. If you don't want to camp or go for a walk, you can still enjoy our parks. Have a bush picnic, go birdwatching, sit by a creek or on a beach and simply relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature's beauty. Queensland has a great climate. But visiting parks and historic sites mid-summer in north or outback Queensland can be very hot. Avoid the crowds at Christmas and Easter too!

It has grown from the early days of three or four clubs to twenty four clubs (see this list) and still growing. This is a non-profit organisation that actively supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service at both association and club level.
