CONSULTING AND EDUCATION IN FORENSIC SCIENCE Forensic DNA Consulting C RIMINALISTICS B ... Forensic Science Articles More and more people are becoming interested in the field of forensic science. Some are interested in entering the field as a career, others need the information for adjunct professions such as the law or law enforcement, and the rest are simply attempting to make some sense out of the increasingly technical news reports that emanate from the media. Our goal is to provide both the professional and lay community with education resources in the field of forensic science. We provide a general framework for thinking about forensic science and integrate all the different specialities through that framework. For instance, our class, Survey of Forensic Science, is basic enough for the non-scientist to gain an appreciation of the various disciplines involved in forensic analyses, yet in-depth enough for the scientist to determine if a career switch is in order. We also provide extremely specific and comprehensive information about the newest forensic speciality, DNA analysis, both through classes and consulting.

These web pages were created to provide the layperson with an easy understanding of what forensic science entails. With a large number of homepages on the net for forensic organizations, no one seems to have taken the time to explain the basics or to make them easily understood. Below, you will find brief explanations of some of the main disciplines within Forensic Science. Click on the icon to see a more in-depth explanation of that topic. The Forensic Icon Bar at the top of each page is an image map, linking directly to any of the other subject pages and to this index page. What is Forensic Science? Forensic Science is any aspect of science as it relates to the law. Typically, it includes the disciplines listed below, but just about any area of science could be called into question in a court of law. Firearms and Toolmark Identification. Firearms examination involves the identifying characteristics between firearm and projectile, projectile and target. Typically, this includes matching bullets to the gun that fired them. Toolmark identification involves the identifying characteristics between tools, such as a pry bar, and the object on which it is used, such as a door frame. Also included in the category are explosives and imprint evidence. Forensic Psychiatry and Profiling.

http://www.tncrimlaw.com/forensic/f_anthro.html
Forensic Anthropology is the application of the science of physical anthropology to the legal process. The identification of skeletal, badly decomposed, or otherwise unidentified human remains is important for both legal and humanitarian reasons. Forensic anthropologists apply standard scientific techniques developed in physical anthropology to identify human remains, and to assist in the detection of crime. Forensic anthropologists frequently work in conjunction with forensic pathologists, odontologists, and homicide investigators to identify a decedent, the manner of death, and/or the postmortem interval. In addition to assisting in locating and recovering suspicious remains, forensic anthropologists work to suggest the age, sex, ancestry, stature, and unique features of a decedent from the skeleton.
