Atari Football History
By Mike Albaugh, edited by us Several folks at Atari had wanted to do a football game for a while, by the time I got there. I believe Steve Bristow and Lyle Rains were the main promoters of the idea, however the technology was not quite up to it. With the move toward microprocessor-controlled games, it started looking possible. The problem of lots of moving objects remained. Early games used a dedicated circuit per object ( Indy 800 used a board per car), but soon various engineers came up with ways to share circuitry. An early success was Sprint , which shared the vertical positioning circuitry among four cars, and (historically interesting) shared a single RAM for the "playfield" and uProc RAM, using the 6502's synchronous memory access to "invisibly" access the RAM for video when the processor was not using it. This was later used to great advantage by the Apple ][, another story. Anyway, the folks at Cyan Engineering (Grass Valley) had designed a game named

Georgian Football s Hotbed. In 1863 the Football Associationhas been established in England. What associates the Poti Harbour with the Georgian football?
http://www.gff.ge/history.htm
News GFF Clubs National Team ... Georgian Football History Georgian Football's Hotbed In 1863 the Football Associationhas been established in England. Coincidentaliy, by then construction work also began at Harbour of Poti a town which was destined tobecome the hotbed of Georgian football. What associates the Poti Harbour with the Georgian football? It's origin, is the answer, for the Game was introduced to Georgia by nobody else but British seamen. It happend in 1879 when exporting of Georgian manganese became a regular business. During those times of largely manual labour when the cargo loading was a long process stretching sometimes to several month the visiting ship crews were involved in on-shore bail games which seemed too strange for the local youth but subsequently they learnt the rules and began playing initially between them and later even completing with the seamen. That enables us to state that Georgian football was born back in 1879. by 1936 when the Soviet League was insepted the georgian selection in all but name, Dinamo Tbilisi was Largely comprised of footballers from Poti: Boris Paitchadze, Grigori Gagua, Gvaji Jorbenadze, Grigol Antadze, Vladimer Berdzenishvili, Akaki Qalichava, Aslan Kharbedia, Tite Jorjikia, Lurik Loladze, Vladimer Tsomaia etc. Furthermore, Paitchadze, who represented Dinamo from 1936 trough 1951 is still regarded as the all time great of Georgian football as well as one of the pre-World War II stars of Soviets. After him the Tbilsi National Stadium has been named while on Dinamo's 1945 winter tour of Romanian the local press nicknamed him "Caruso of Football" which struck to him for life.

Fall, 1884
The IU student newspaper made its first reference to football by reporting that a team was being organized.
Fall, 1885 A Yale graduate, professor Arthur B. Woodford, came to Indiana to teach political and social science and during the next year he introduced football to Indiana University. Woodford coached the Hoosiers from 1887 to 1888. Fall, 1887 The initial Indiana football team plays its first game and loses to Franklin, 10-8. The squad, captained by Harry Wise, its fullback, went into its first game, "unaware of the bruising body contact that would ensue," carrying "only one substitute, a sophomore named Ellis." The team complained that it was hampered by having no reserves to play against in practice. The campus newspaper challenged the student body: "If the boys of Indiana University have any pride in college athletics, let them go to the grounds, divest themselves of coats and vests and give the players practice." Fall, 1889
