The division encourages members and non-members interested in food and agriculture to join the division. Programs are of interest not only to chemists, but to biochemists, plant physiologists, molecular biologists and food scientists. Technical focus is on food composition and food quality. Technical programs concern food processing, nutrition and biochemistry, food safety, and food flavor. Other aspects of agricultural products are also of interest, including products of biotechnology such as drugs and chemical raw materials. Particular focus is found by participating in one of the four subdivisions. The objectives of the Division: shall be to bring together persons particularly interested in the chemistry of agricultural and food products, both raw and finished; to foster programs of general papers and symposia on special topics dealing with this field of chemistry; to promote such other activities as will stimulate activity in and emphasize the importance of research in agricultural and food chemistry. The division also seeks to promote scientific interest and inquiry in agricultural and food chemistry by divisional meetings, professional contacts, reports, papers, discussions and publications. Food Science Food science, a curriculum of the Department of Food Science, is an interdisciplinary field that applies the basic sciences, mathematics, and engineering to convert agricultural commodities into edible foods and beverages through various processing steps. Food processing involves not only the foods themselves, but also the packaging, storage, and distribution of the foods.
