Held in conjunction with the Encino Chamber of Commerce's "The 17th Annual Taste of Encino" The Schedule for the 2004 "Taste of Folk Music" will be posted here later in the summer. The 2003 "Taste of Folk Music" was a great success... The lively twang of the banjo, and the traditional folk and bluegrass music, dance and storytelling of past generations seemed to come from everywhere in Encino/Genesta Park, surrounding the California Traditional Music Society Center for Folk Music, located at 16953 Ventura Blvd. in Encino, CA. Our actual audience accurately reflected our objective to reach a broadly diverse, general audience focused mainly on the San Fernando Valley, with the intent to build new audiences for future events. The majority of the people were from the San Fernando Valley, however, people came from as far away as San Diego. We observed a diverse ethnic mix, Latino and Middle Eastern, plus Asian and African Americans, and a very large audience of young families and senior citizens. This year 108 people who had never heard about CTMS signed up to be on our mailing lists, 65 people filled out evaluation forms and 16 signed up to volunteer at events.
