Florida Teaching Certificate.

Certification
Florida teachers must hold a valid Educator's Certificate. Although Florida participates in the interstate agreement on Qualification of Educational Personnel with a number of states, a certificate from another state does not guarantee the same certification coverage in Florida, particularly in the area of Exceptional Student Education.
Application must be made through the Human Resources Department of the School Board of Highlands County (SBHC). The cost for application for certification is $56.00 per subject. The process is stated below.
    1. Complete an application for Educator's Certificate (Form CG-10 - Sections I through VII) within thirty (30) days of employment and attach a check or money order for $56.00 payable to the Florida Department of Education. Submit official transcripts of all college credits and degrees. An official transcript has the seal of the institution impressed on at least one page. A photocopy of the seal is unacceptable. If you do not have an official transcript, it is recommended that you request that the institution send them directly to the H.R.office. 2. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must provide documentation that you have been legally admitted to the United States and that your immigration status does not restrict you from seeking employment.

Alternative Certification Many states have developed or are initiating programs that provide alternative routes to teacher certification, particularly for mid-career professionals. The goal of such programs is to draw a diversity of individuals with in-depth subject matter backgrounds into teaching careers. Requirements for an alternative teaching license vary by state. For an overseas position, it does not matter what state your license is from. Generally, applicants must hold a bachelors degree in the subject to be taught, achieve a passing score on state-required examinations, complete an intensive teacher preparation program, and possibly fulfill a supervised teaching internship. Specific information on which school systems are offering internships can be requested from the schools. After satisfactory completion of these requirements, the applicant will be issued a teaching credential.

Certification program turns professionals to teachers
Fast-track courses create new careers in unstable economy
By Trina Priore Published: Wednesday, July 9, 2003 Central Florida lawmakers and educators say education and unemployment are two of the biggest challenges facing our state.
And they say they've found a solution to resolve both.
Lockheed Martin, Orange County Public Schools and UCF's College of Education collaboratively have created a fast-track course designed to quickly prepare math and science professionals who want to leave the work force behind and enter the classroom.
The Transition to Math and Science Teaching, or T-MAST, is aimed at addressing the dire shortage of math and science teachers in local middle schools while creating new career opportunities for math and science professionals who have been left jobless in an unstable economy.
The Toyota USA Foundation gave UCF $275,000 to help launch the program this summer. It is the first of its kind in the state.
